Re: Any info on Cumberland River?
I fish the river quite a bit in the fall, but have never fished it in the summer. Just out of curiosity for you fell's that have fished it during the summer...do you have a preference in regards to time of day that you fish it? Early morning, late afternoon or whenever you can? Just joking about whenever you can, but seriously, anyone have a preference of time they like to fish it?

Okay, thanks for the info everyone. We stayed mostly up by the dam and had a blast. I got my fill of rainbows and will be content if I don't see another for awhile. Caught about 8 white bass and 2 sauger. A couple of people were pulling in walleyes off the deep holes. What's up with the browns? No one caught any that I spoke with. Anyway, we headed down to Burkesville on our way back home. We had no luck with anything. The water was really low and dirty. Even if they do have good fishing, or not, I will never go back to that town. I'm sorry folks, but I heard the "duelin' banjos" song the whole time I was there.:D Also, I think whoever built the ramp there should be fired. I think a 55 degree incline is a bit much! Every car in the town had some sort of a large, flashy sticker/decal in the window saying Git r' dun or Redneck. Okay, we all had our fair share of em', but that was enough to last a lifetime. I will stay close to the WC dam from here on out.[/QUOTE
Hope you don't choke on a trout bone you *******. Fish somewhere else.
Never saw that comin!
Re: Any info on Cumberland River?
I'M NOT FROM BURKESVILLE AND ALL, BUT THAT SOUNDS PRETTY DISRESPECTFUL TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE. I WOULD CHOOSE MY HUMOR A LITTLE MORE WISELY. I DOUBT YOU'LL BE GETTING MUCH MORE ADVICE ON FISHING THE C-RIVER...JUST A HUNCH.

Re: Any info on Cumberland River?
RVogler,
Lemme guess, your a Buckeye? No Kentuckian would speak that way about his or her own state. I agree with BirdStrike, RICHYD4U, and muskytooth. Very nice folks down there, always have been. Most of rural KY can be intimidating to Louisville city slickers just like Bardstown Road on a Saturday Night could scare the daylights out of any respectable gent from deep in the hollow. Like Bstrike says, most rural KY areas have the nicest folks living there. Burskeville is a bustling metropolis compared to some of the one-horse towns we have in KY. It was a very disrespectful attitude in the email even after taking advice from some of the people on this forum who do live in or near Burkesville. All at once you turned a decent fishing report into an offensive email. What are you an engineer? You can't build relationships with people that aren't like you, how could you build a boat ramp? BTW it takes more talent to play Dueling Banjos then you'll ever have so to use it as a negative statement is weak and flimsy. And, finally I agree with muskytooth...find somewhere else to fish.

Re: Any info on Cumberland River?
Hey guys, I sincerely apologize for my negative remarks about the area. I won't retract my statement about the ramp. A bit too steep for my liking, but everyone has their opinion. Honestly I was very envious of the area. Absolutely beautiful and as stated before the people were very nice for the most part. The owner of Strange Bait was a great host and gave some info on the area. Since the stripers were not present we did not purchase anything, and I felt bad since he took time out of his day to assist us. We had a couple of run ins with some bikers that were totally rude and they probably weren't from the area, but it put me in a bad mood. On top of the negativity I was ready to get home. I'm sure ya'll know the feeling. I grew up around rough areas and chose to move away when I got older. Sorry, but it's my past that makes me judemental. Overall a great fishing trip and I will definitely return. Please accept my apologies. Muskeytooth...I'm not your type.:D

Chub...
I've found that early morning and later afternoon work the best for me. There have been days when the bite is on ALL day, but as a rule around lunch time they shut down and they don't pick up until 3-4 o'clock. That's just my experince. I have learned one thing because I was stranded down on Helm's one night after an unfortunate "dropping keys in the river to the truck" situation...we fished all the way until dark and killed the trout! Since then we have been staying longer and fishing till dark.
I have a question though? I've been hearing about a bunch of "slot" sized and bigger fish being caught by the dam...that's not what I have usually found. We always caught bigger fish down stream, but with a small amount of generation are the trout moving up stream for colder, moving water?

I was thinking the same thing. Never did well on bigger fish close to the dam.
Re: Any info on Cumberland River?
YOUR HUNCH IS EXACTLY RIGHT...DUE TO THE LOW FLOW LEVEL ON THE C-RIVER, THE TROUT HAVE MIGRATED UP TOWARDS THE DAM FOR COOLER WATER TEMPS. I HAVE BEEN CATCHING BIGGER FISH UP BY THE WC DAM THEN I EVER HAVE BEFORE.
TROUT DO DEFINETLY FEED MORE IN THE MORNINGS AND EVENINGS. THAT IS WHEN MOST OF THE HATCHES OCCUR ON THE RIVER. I CAN'T WAIT TO GET BACK....PROBABLY THIS WEDNESDAY! I'M STOKED! HAGD!

Maybe you shouldnt return with a attitude like that!
Re: Any info on Cumberland River?
ONE WOULD THINK HAVING GROWN UP IN A "ROUGH" AREA THAT ONE WOULD BE A LITTLE MORE RESPECTFUL AND USE TO BEING THOSE KINDS OF AREAS? ALSO, IF YOU THINK B-VILLE IS ROUGH...SOMETHINGS WRONG! TALK ABOUT ONE QUIET LITTLE TOWN. SOUNDS LIKE YOUR JUST A LITTLE MOODY....KIND OF LIKE MY WIFE.
