Re: Question about Poaching
Thats what I like about this board, disagree with the regulars and the post explodes, GEO on this side of the State a Brown is a Smallmouth. Geo you said in first post these people did not know about slot. Big-Cat hope I didn't make you too sick. I too think the law should be followed and would call the pouching hotline if I knew someone was breaking the law and knew it. You guys I have alot of fun reading the post on this board, keep it up.

Sorry for the confusion.........I can see where in the first post I did say Browns......and that could easily be confused with brownfish, which are of course........smallies.
Sorry for jumping the gun.
Later,

Re: Question about Poaching
You were half right imo. Telling them about the slot was a good thing to do. Not calling the law was not. There is a saying REPORT ALL POACHING. That is what I would have done.

Re: Question about Poaching
To be a regular, you must check in on a regular basis. This means once your brain has been cooked by the events of the day, you MUST depressurize by checking into Fishin.com to see who caught what with what. Or, before you start your day's work you HAVE to clear your brain of road rage to see if your fishing buddy put it on you the night before. Or, before leaving for the day, you MUST see if someone left a jewel of information which may give you an edge on your next fishing trip. And, if you enjoy the stories and ribbing of friends on this site each day, then you must be a REGULAR. I confess...I am a regular.
Re: Question about Poaching
Never had much luck poaching fish, I had poached salmon once and tried poached eggs but I would rather fry or grill my fish.:D It has been said several times on this post ingnorance is no excuse if you are going to fish then know the rules simple as that. They should have released them even though they were dead but whne they decided to go ahead and keep them they broke the law period, actually when fishing Ky trout waters one should read the rules before going and if not sure, there is catch and release.

I don't know of any freshwater fish that's good poached, but poached grouper with some fresh tomato, garlic, and basil is excellent (there's more to the recipe, but I'm not the cook). The grouper has a strong enough flavor that it's not overpowered by the other ingredients, and it doesn't flake and fall apart when you poach it, like a lot of fish would. ****, I'm making myself hungry here :D
Yep, they broke the law. I just probably wouldn't bother calling just because, like DJD said, you gotta pick your battles. I'm not gonna ruin my day worrying about what some other schmuck does; if he keeps it up, he'll probably get caught. Now, if it's a safety issue, that's entirely different; I'd be on the phone immediately.
