Re: Sympson Lake Bardstown to be closed to some fishing!
i noticed a couple years ago there seemed to be alot of shad schooling up in the lake. the hybrids should help control the shad population. when did they stock the hybrids and how many? do you know if they are going to continue stocking them? any info will be appreciated!
I was told 1,000 and it's to help eliminate the smal bluegill more than anything. Now thats what I was told by someone who was there when they stocked the joint, the bluegill is the problem.. not shad. No more stock of whites either.

3,811 hybrids stocked to control gizzard shad. A direct quote from the Kentucky Standard.

That sounds more like it because the lake has very few bluegill.

Re: Sympson Lake Bardstown to be closed to some fishing!
thanks for the info . i figured it had something to do with the shad. i used to get some nice bluegills out of there but the size is nothing like it used to be and i seen all the shad and knew why the size of the bluegill was down. the first thing i thought of was hybrids helping out! there should be some good fishing in there in a few years . i'm a big hybrid fisherman so i'm pumped. any chance of them continuing to stock them?
