Watched on the news this moring that they are now going to start bailing out indivuduals who are defaulting on their mortgage. To qualify you must be 3 months behind on payments. They plan to cut those individuals interest rates in half, as well as to make the majority of their monthly payment donated to the principle balance. I thought the corporate bailouts were getting ridiculous, now individual bailouts. Jim Kramer explained how the individual bailouts help all of us by stopping the continuing decline in the housing market, and help restore home values, but I don't know.
My wife and I were considering re-financing - but the process is a pain in the behind, and we have to come up with a pretty large amount of money for closing and fees. I guess it would be alot easier, and cheaper on us if we just quit paying and let mortgage company refinance for us for free - probably get a better rate.
I am about as liberal as you can get on most issues, but also think there should still degree of personal accountability for your actions.
I understand and sympathize with people who have fallen on bad times or rather had bad times fall on them; I mean the loss of a job or a catastrophic illness, things along those lines. I am in favor of helping those people but if a person loses his job and then sits on his behind expecting the government to support them, I have real issues with that. The sick person, I don't mind helping because they can't help themselves through no fault of their own.
I know a man who was making $800 per week, his wife was making $500 per week, and they went out and bought a $325,000 house that was only a shell, temporary plywood floors, no electricity, paneling, plumbing, doors, stairs; NOTHING. He got a construction loan and now, 5 years later the house is still unfinished. He had no down payment, had to sell his 'toys' so he could get the loan, but he got the "big house." The pressure was too much for his wife and she just walked out and left. Now he can't pay his bills although he is working two jobs. He knew that he couldn't afford the house and mountain of credit card bills when he started the mess. Why should I bail out a man who got himself into all that and absolutely refuses to change his spending habits? You could pay every bill he owes, including the house, and I'll guarantee you that in less than a week he would be in debt up to his ears again. He is the poster child for bad money management and there are millions out there just like him. I have no sympathy for them; I live within my means, my houses, boat, and automobiles are all paid for and my FICO score is 845. I don't try to keep up with the Jones; in fact, I don't know them. IMO this bailout thing will turn around and bite a big chunk out of the Democratic donkey's butt. That party symbol now carries a particulary significant meaning.

You're EXACTLY RIGHT........
I've stayed within my means for 20 years........
Saved for 10 years before I purchased my FIRST house........and WORKED 3 jobs for the downpayment.
Saved for 10 years BEFORE I purchased by first boat..............
ALWAYS pay myself first........AT LEAST 10%........have been since the FIRST DAY I WORKED.......including when I was a paperboy....
I love it when people tell me I can afford to put 10% away..........I can NOW, because I don't have 5 credit cards MAXXED, a GAS card MAXXED, and Home Depot card MAXXED......and Sears Card MAXXED. When I first started putting 10% away 20 years ago, I made a paltry $12,000 a year. NOT MUCH but I still put 10% away........
I've ALWAYS paid CASH....and if I don't have it........I FREAKIN GIVE SOMETHING UP........like the BIG Screen TV I'd LOVE TO HAVE........
Credit should be TOUGH to get.........I remember the first Student Loan I got for school........the guy practically beat my MOM for me even ASKING for a loan. It was funny........He SCARED me to DEATH about repayment, and STAIRED ME DOWN for 30 minutes as he GRILLED me about responsibility.......AND you know what I PAID the **** THING, because he scared me in my dreams..........
Personal RESPONSIBILITY.......but hey, that has also gone out with our STRONG CONSERVATIVE.......CHRISTIAN values......

As true a statement as I've ever read on this board.
Hey Geo, buy a used big screen like I did. Got a very nice used TV ($400) from some folks who bought a flat screen theater sized thing to hang on their wall.
What tees me off the most about the bailout is they don't seem to know what to do with the money they just had to have. Back when they voted to take our money it was supposed to have been necessary immediately in order to stave off a depression. Well they've been waffling for how long now? Still no depression and they're starting to piss the money in typical Washington DC style. The banks who've gotten money so they could loan it out, have taken it and done no such thing. American Express has turned itself into a bank to get some of the handouts, and I expect more of the same.
The federal bailouts are an absolute travesty. Congress is to blame for getting the collapse started with sub prime lending and no oversight, now we get robbed to pay for their mortgages for votes scam.
Drives me nuts.

My 401k is spewing red ink like it took an arrow through both lungs. I was determined to wait it out and not become part of the panic, but my blend of funds may have to have emergency surgery. Boy is this ever fun, I'm tore up.

I've saved for 18 years to send my oldest to college......WHEREVER she wanted to go........
I've been really good about it, giving up A lot of things.........
She's a senior in high school this year, and I've already started limiting her options for schools.........
Now...........her college fund which was enough to send her for 4 years to ANY school in Indiana, or KY, is not barely enough to send her to IVY Tech or IUS.......IF she stays at home........
ANY and ALL people involved in a company that SCREWED the average American should be put in front of a FIRING SQUAD.....AND I DO MEAN ANYONE......Current and Future presidents, current and future senators, current and future judges.....ALL banks where they have accepted a bailout....TOP 5 executives........pop, pop, pop, pop, pop.............SEND a MESSAGE.
What ever happened to Tar and Feathering....... :) :)
Yes my friends......CHANGE IS COMING.........
Welcome to the GeoFisher Revolution.

As the previous poster stated used might be the way to go. With technology changing and becoming more advanced people are trading up and leaving behind great tvs with great pictures. You might also be able to score a good deal on craigslist or equivalent. We've had our big screen for a several years and technology wise it's obsolete but watching the game in HD still suits me just fine.

That's the final straw. I'm in your corner brother, what can I do to help your campaign? Short of my head doing 360's or green projectile vomiting, I'll back you all the way.

Is this targeted for 2012 or do you need more time to organize, say 2016? You'll probably need to get together with Tyme2fish - he'd talked about running and you don't want to square off against each other.
