Re: Go to striper lure.....
Yes I aggree that for the most part big baits equals big fish. Lake Cumberland has changed over the last few years. The size of the bait fish has gone down and the stripers have adjusted. It doesn't take a big lure to catch them now. Last time I was there, the stripers were feeding heavy on 2 inch threadfins. They wouldn't hit a big lure. I caught my biggest on the Gizz 3. Check it out on the photo page. Note the small lure in the corner of the stripers mouth. Smack Tackle will be at the Cincy Boat Show, I'm sure they will have some good deals.
Re: Go to striper lure.....
A fellow in my boat caught a 35 lb. fish yesterday on an alwive that was about 2 1/2 in. long. I almost guarentee that fish wouldn't have eaten a big bait. You can see the pic on the photo page at www.conleystriper.com. When the stripers are dialed in on small (1 in.) threadfin spawn, they'll eat little else.

Justin-
10+ is a baby...I like the sound of that! I'm just aiming low so that anything bigger will be a surprise! lol! Thanks for the tackle tips, I'll make sure to get some.
The only question is why you fishin for the babies??? A 10 lb striper is a baby in my book, try doubling the weight for a good time nothing like a 20+ on your bass rod. All jokes a side I use a doll fly white and chartreuse with chartreuse trailer more than anything with out the blade though I have less action while using the spinner arm. When they are hitting the surface I use the Rapala X-Rap 13 which works really well but this year top water has not been the best yet. The 1 oz doll fly works when they are in the jumps as well. Rapala jerk baits work great as well but you need to upsize the rear hook or you loose a lot of them.
Joe-
Nice fish! From what I've heard, size is the key right now on the CL. I've heard people fishing a GIZZ 4 and getting nothing, switching the GIZZ 3 and WWWWHHHAAMMMMOOOO!

Re: Go to striper lure.....
Rich have you gone over to Ranger Bob's and talked with them? They have a good selection of baits.

Gizz 3's and swimbaits for me in winter. Gizz 4's later in spring. Hard to beat the Gizz's.
