Re: Just curious!!!
LOL....that's exactly the reactions we got 30 years ago. I'm not making this up. I know that other people had to have seen this thing sometime if they fished Herrington regularly. We were talking about it over the holidays and just thought I would bring it up here to see if anyone else knew anything about it.

Re: Just curious!!!
Ive never seen anything like that i herrington, but ive lived 10 t0 15 min from the lake all my life and have always been told that there are catfish in herrrington as big as a buick 4 door car!!!!!! Not saying i believe the stories or that i dont, but i will say this, give a fish or animal enough food and shelter in the right enviroment who knows how big it can get?!?! That is a deep dark lake in some places, and you never know what people throw in lakes these days!!!! BEWARE!!!

Re: Just curious!!!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure there were sturgeon in that river before it was impounded. Freshwater sturgeon can grow to over 1500 lbs., and they don't come to the surface often. I don't know if any of them could have survived the damming of the river, but if so, as deep as that lake is, I could see where some might have survived, and grown huge, and rarely been seen.

that is the going theory at Lake Champlain. they claim to have a lake monster as well. as i see it that is one of the only possible explanations. but ya never know what is lurking around under the surface. i think i recall seeing an article that stated sturgeon can grow to over seven feet long if the circumsatances are right.
on another note, i saw Bigfoot walking down I-64 near blankenbaker road on evening after leaving ruby tuesday's happy hour.:)

Re: Just curious!!!
i tell u this and it has no relevance to the lockness monster in herrington... but i was fishing douglas lake in tn a few summers back at night and little did i know but they have aeration pipes in the lake from the dam almost a mile up toward the river..... well i was fishin down the bank at the **** and started hearing bubbles and hissing and stuff like that.... i look behind me adn it was a full moon and all u could see was bubbles about 20 feet wide all the way up the lake...... needless to say i came off the lake just as fast as i could cause that lake is built on a faultline and i didnt know what was coming off and there wasnt much service to call tfw so i did call them the next day and they told me there was a aeration system installed and i wasnt the only person who had left and called them over that.... before i did leave i trolled thru the bubbles and the surface temp came up 3 or 4 degrees it was just weird and to beat all i asked someone who was takin out at the dock and they said they seen it and didnt know either.......

Re: Just curious!!!
It could have been a BIG snake. Some people will let pythons and such go after they get to big to keep. Me and a buddie was fishing the Cumberland river years ago, down next to Tompkinsville and we saw a huge snake trying to get up the bank across the creek from us, it was huge, several weeks later someone saw three guys carrying a snake across a field that was over 15ft long, they supposidally lost it. Who knows what evil lurks in the depths of our waters. But a sturgen is possible.Mark we are too far north for manatees, lol lol. Also could it be Jimmy Hoffa?

Re: Just curious!!!
It's funny how this kind of Monster/Creature story still exists. I love it and hope the Lochness, Bigfoot, Yetti, Swamp Monkey or whatever else is out there stays because they make great campfire stories.
I learned a long time ago that Monsters and the Boogey Man do not exist.:p

Re: Just curious!!!
I'm not for sure how long ago this happened to this guy but I use to be a lifeguard at this country club and this guy found out I fished and we talked quite a bit when he came there. One day he told me that him and a couple of buddies were out fishing and saw it swim away from them, he said they had a camera and he regrets everyday cause he was in such awestruck that he forgot he had it. So was that in the last thirty years idk this guy was older so maybe....
