But what is "above your means"? Everyone has their own definition of that.
For me, I believe it is above my means to take out a loan on a boat. Therefore, I don't own a boat and am saving to buy one in cash.
Other people do not believe that is above their means.
I just think it's pretty harsh to throw everyone who is having trouble with their mortgage into the "SCUMBAG LOSER" category.

* If you make 60K a year and buy a 300K house.......that is ABOVE your MEANS.
* If you make 40K and your spouse make 20K and you think you can drive 2 NEW SUV's and buy a BRAND NEW 21 Ft TRITON and finance it for oh say 10 years.........that IS above your means.
* If you SPEND every dang penny you make, and have no money to help yourself out in a pinch.......THAT is above your MEANS.
* If you have 6 credit cards and make 30K a year..........that is ABOVE your MEANS.
Kind of common sense things............

Well said the people who have done the right get dumped on.
Re: This will REALLY HONK you OFF
IN my job I don't know if I'm getting a check at the end of every week. It's a job I love. It supports my wife and three kids, a dog, and two cats. I've got two vans in the driveway one of which doesn't run. If I don't get a check, it is real tight till I do get one. I don't want the government to pay my house payment or give me a van to replace the piece of junk that wont run. It's not the Governments job to take care of me. I am resposible for what happens to me and my family. I'm not begging anyone for anything, but I do have family and friends that would help me if I really needed it and I will gladly help them also. If I can't pay for dog food and cat food, then out they go. If I can't pay the cable bill, no more T.V. If I can't pay the house payment, I'm getting rid of this one and scaling down. I will go live with the parents if I have to. If I don't have the money to put gas in my van, guess what, I'm riding my bike. Did it last summer when gas was over $4.00 and yes it was a funny sight to see an old fat guy on a 30 yr old 10 speed. As for food, I have a garden in my back yard that provides plenty of meals. I will do whatever it takes to keep from forcing my fellow americans to take care of me through Government mandates and taxes.
