Re: Dipping....need to quit and can't..ideas?
[QUOTE=cra97;364914]I think I have decided to set a date, next Monday to be exact, again and try the "patch" along with the sunflower ideas. I understand it is gonna **** and will tell my wife so she knows why I will be "grouchy" for a while. I like the "packets" concept too, but I will have to see if I can do it like this first, as I dont know how the patch and packets would act together :) Thank you all for the help and I will let you know if I can keep what little sanity I have left.

I used the tobacco cessation program at Ft Knox to quit. After I lost my wife to breast cancer when she was 39 my twelve year old daughter told me she didn't want to lose me too. They gave me patches and a medicine to help me get thru it. I also kept Halls cough drops in my pocket all the time. While using the patch, I tried to dip but since i don't spit it made me nauseated. That gave me an incentive not to dip begcause i would get a little sick. The medicine took away the irritation. Good luck! I'll pray for you.
Re: Dipping....need to quit and can't..ideas?
I quit several years ago I was at my high school coaches house and he told me I need to quit. I took the can out and put it on his bar in the basement and never chewed again. I wish I could will this to all of you who are trying to quit. First two weeks were tough then it got easier for me. I think the moon was right or something. One promise I made if I quit I would take what it cost to dip and spend it on fishing tackle. At two can a day habit I am having trouble buying that much tackle. NOT

Yeah, I was an instructor and couldn't have a spit can in the classroom.
Re: Dipping....need to quit and can't..ideas?
[QUOTE=cra97;364458]I saw the post on smoking and I too have been fighting a "nicotine battle" with dip myself. I have tried to quit, and actually made some progress and went from 2 cans/day to 1/day, but that is not enough for me. I NEED to quit! I have to go to an appointment on 29 Apr 09 to see a Dr. about some "suspicious" things they found at my last cleaning, related to the dipping ofcourse. I am a little worried about what they will find, but more importantly I have not been able to stop the habit. Dip has 3 times the nicotine as cigs (1 can is equal to 3 packs) and it is kicking my butt right now.
Bottom line I guess is, has anyone here used any "help" to quit that they would suggest to someone who keeps trying on their own and cannot seem to kick it? Any help would be appreciated as I would like to live long enough, or at least have my WHOLE mouth left, to see my kids grow-up and I don't see that happening if I cannot beat this 18 yr demon in my life. Thanks for any ideas/suggestions. Oh yeah, I have tried the "setting a date", cold turkey, cutting back slowly, ideas and none have worked for me yet (just so you know what I have already tried before and failed at). Take care.

Try this Rob, a friend of mine that I have known for over 30 years has had suregery on his lower lip and lower front of his gums first so he moved the dip to the sides for years, then had surgery on both sides of his lower gums, so he started using the poches and would stick them in his upper lip in the front, then all 4 of his front teeth fell out due to that and he finally quit when there was no other place to put it. It cost him pretty much his entire mouth for he has problems eating and his gums bleed for no reason at all. He ended up seeing his doctor for STONG nicotine patches and they weened him down from there but it took almost a year. He was at one time a 3 can a day dipper +. You got those boys and that brand new Skeeter ride to think about so QUIT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cancer is cancer and can start anywhere and spread to anywhere and you won't know it until it is too late. My brother in law, 36 years old, was diagnosed at Stage 4 in August and passed away 6 months later leaving my sister and 2 pre-teen boys behind. He never knew he had cancer, he did smoke but not a lot, and one day just started feeling bad, 3 days later the bad news, 2 months of radiation and chemo at UK and then another 2 months of experimental stuff at Vanderbilt University for the UK stuff was not even coming close, then the last 2 months they gave up and said no hope. I was there and seen my sister, my brother in law's family and my 2 nephews and what they went thru then and go thru now and believe me, you don't want that for your wife, kids and family. QUIT IT at all COST!!!!! Sunflower seeds are cheap, 2 packs for a dollar Frito Lay are the best bang for the buck and just because I eat about 2-3 packs a day. Beats chewing gum, tobacco plus you get some protein and fiber in your diet.
