Its not just bass fisherman, its everyone, and it gets worse every year! .
Aggreed, its not ONLY bass fishermen, but it seems to come along with tourny fishermen. The reason is that money has gotten involved in a pastime that should be for pure enjoyment and relaxation. If the almighty dollar isn't involved there would be alot less IMHO. There would still be a few idiots, but not as many. Just my 2 cents......
Re: Rude and Inconsiderate Fishermen on Cedar Creek!!! ....... :-(
Last week my neighbor and I were fishing on the KY River and was fishing within 20 feet from the bank and a boat came down the river and went between our boat and the bank. Before he got to us I said, "Surely your are not thinking about coming through our fishing space"...he said nothing, just kept coming. As he came through and continued to go on down the river, I gave him a lecture I don't think he will soon forget. Years before he would not have been so lucky, but now I just sit and try to figure out why this world has gotten in such a shape it is these days. I know the answer, but will not get philosophical.
I did make the mistake to go to Cedar on Saturday. Said I would not do it, but my fishing partner and sister wanted to catch a few crackers so off we went. I knew it would be bad, but I didn't think I would see a cabin cruiser almost take out a bassboat because of the wake it was making. To the people who slow down their boats to the maximum wave- maker, I want to say to you. Why don't you just get a barge and put a doser blade on the front and see if every boat, duck and frog can be washed 20 feet upon the bank. And, try to get as close to me as possible as you go by. Thank you!
Now for the fishing report. I did manage to catch 9 bass from 8 inches to 16 inches and a limit of bluegills and crackers. However, the gills and crackers were small. I am not sure where the bigger gills and crackers are right now. They should be on the nest, but we found very few on the nest. I did have a monster bass miss my frog. He looked to be 5 or 6 pounds, but just simply missed. I caught all the bass on and around the weed beds just at dark.
Re: Rude and Inconsiderate Fishermen on Cedar Creek!!! ....... :-(
I don't know if it is just being a dork or they just don't know any better. Seems in the past 10 years the number of fishermen on our lakes have increased in record numbers. A lot of these people think that buying a boat and a license gives them total access to wherever they decide to go. A lot of them also never fished before in their lives and had nobody explain what common courtesy on the water is.
I along with the majority on this board learned to fish at a very early age and was taught courtesy to others right along with how to fish a plastic worm or jig.
I blame the huge influx of tournaments for a lot of this "new age" fisherman. I run into people every day that thinks if you go fishing you must fish some type of organized event. They look at me like I am crazy when I tell them I fish for a hobby and seldom if ever keep a fish.
Just think if jet skies were allowed on Cedar Creek to go along with the inconsiderate fishermen. Talk about driving a man to drink..............
Re: Rude and Inconsiderate Fishermen on Cedar Creek!!! ....... :-(
I think the majority of fisherman have enough sense to drive a boat correctly and give way on a bank not to cut someone off. But it only takes a couple of idiots to ruin the rep of all of us. I agree that many of these people probably did not have dad's to teach them the proper manners on the water. I would not want to have to do this but I really think there should be some kind of test you should have to take to just operate a boat on the water. The proper manners could be apart of it because in all honesty it could save someones life. Surely most of these people are just ignorant to the rules of the water and not intentional. Not all of them of course. For example I have been fishing with a buddy for many years. He was brought up correclty and actually one of the best fisherman I have ever been around. Great person and would never intentional be an idiot on the water. But he never really fished the big lakes until a few years ago and just bought decent boat. I have been with him several times on the water and practically had to steer him away from on coming traffic on the water. I tried not to get frustrated but finally one day he said something about staying left of on coming boat traffic. No wonder every time I went with him we had at least one game of chicken on the water! He is one of the reasons I started fishing small lakes years ago!!...lol!
I apologize to anyone that we may have frustrated on the water for the past few years!
people just dont have any respect anymore i will say something to them cause i could careless if they are fishing for 100 dollars or 100,000 they put their britches on the same as i do...... why didnt u just let that guy take a spool of line up in his trolling motor.......
That will be how these folks are easily recognized by other, more mature fishermen and women in the future. Don't think it didn't cross my mind. Only, I wanted to do THAT and then run tight circles at half throttle and full trim until his boat was sitting up on the bank burried a foot deep in the mud, rock, and trees. His cussing would come afterwards!!!!
Re: Rude and Inconsiderate Fishermen on Cedar Creek!!! ....... :-(
I used to fish Cedar every weekend in years past. I have caught some huge bass down there but I refuse to go back if the sun is shining. I see idiots on every body of water I fish, but Cedar Creek must put out idiot attractors. It has gotten terrible.
I will only fish it at night when the fools are too sunburnt, drunk, wrecked, or beat to death to interfere with me.:)
Good Luck!

Re: Rude and Inconsiderate Fishermen on Cedar Creek!!! ....... :-(
That and the fact people run full throttle within 10 feet of each other is why I don't make the trip to that great fishery. If I ever decide to try KDFWR I promise the lake I work I will be giving a lot of tickets for this careless bull.
Re: Rude and Inconsiderate Fishermen on Cedar Creek!!! ....... :-(
Weren't they originally going to have some sort of restrictions on the lake such as HP or length of boat?
Of course as soon as they do that, then people would complain or just ignore the rules like they do on some of those other restricted lakes like Beaver or Elmer Davis.
Re: Rude and Inconsiderate Fishermen on Cedar Creek!!! ....... :-(
A small body of water, several hundred boats running at full throttle and many who don't know how operate a boat in a safe manner and to me this spells problems. It is just a matter of time until tragedy strikes.
When Cedar Creek was on the drawing board there was going to be a HP stipulation. After the lake was completed the HP stipulation was removed because of an outcry from tournament anglers. I was told this by my state rep when I inquired as to why the HP stipulation was not being enforced.
Here in Kentucky we can jump into a 100 MPH plus boat and run it on public waters without any prior experience of even operating a 6 HP motor and are not required to have even liability insurance.
I know that everyone hates government intervention but I think it is time for them to require all boaters and especially new boaters to show some ability to operate a motor boat in a safe manner and that all boats on our public waters to at least carry liability insurance.
The TROUBLE is when the government starts putting guidelines into effect they don't seem to know when to quit. Greed and insanity overcomes common sense approaches when the government gets involved.
Re: Rude and Inconsiderate Fishermen on Cedar Creek!!! ....... :-(
ANOTHER THING that brings my blood to a boil is the drunks on houseboats cursing passing boaters and even on ocassion throwing beer bottles at them.
If you fish Herrington Lake on weekends you know exactly what I am referring to. These drunks sit on their boats and/or the public marinas and get plastered and then start their verbal attacks on every boat that gets within 100 feet of them. And all the while the Water Enforcement is stalking behind some barrier trying to catch a boater entering one of the multitude of 'no wakes' zones on the lake.

I don't agree but I fish tournaments:). My biggest problem is Pleasure Boaters, Jet Skiers, Pontoon boats and drunken fools on any boat.
During tournaments I encounter knuckleheads getting way to close or driving between me and the bank I'm fishing...had a guy on Beaver pull in front of me since he felt he was fishing for panfish while I was fishing for bass and that made it ok. I wasn't pissed but I was disappointed that an elderly man didn't see the problem.
Of couse I'm talking about lakes and creeks not just Cedar.
Re: Rude and Inconsiderate Fishermen on Cedar Creek!!! ....... :-(
Not to be a punk but when that happends to me, I throw right in there boat. You be going down a bank and here comes some jerk cutting ya off. Can't stand it. If I see somebody fishing a cove or bank, I will not even fish it. Just b/c you are fishing a tournement doesn't mean you can lose your manners. Show courtesy and you will recieve it. God bless folks.
