Re: Sonar/GPS/ Side Imaging Help
I was wondering if one could see GPS maps on a networked unit if the screen you were looking at did not have inherent GPS capability itself. If anyone knows that would be helpful.
Both units would need to be GPS capable. Get one unit with the antenna and the other unit without.
Re: Sonar/GPS/ Side Imaging Help
My bow unit has died. Third dead unit in 10 years. My now 10 year old console unit runs like a charm but should have been retired 4 years ago.
In looking at replacesments for the bow and console, I'm torn on what to buy. If I thought something would last for 10 years then I would not mind so much the big bucks. Given the life of my recent stuff seems to be about 3 years, this inspires me to buy value and assume it will need to be replaced in 3 years:(
For the Bow, I was thinking of an Eagle 480 or the Lowrance 510x for Color. GPS on the bow would be nice but I can see my console GPS from my bow so I don't have to have it.
The console is realy tough for me. I don't want to spend a ton but like the 7 inch screens and side imaging technology.
Has anyone used the side imaging technology Hummingbird has on the ledges of KY Lake??? Can you see fish on the drops along with the structure???
I can get a pretty decent price on a Lowrance LCX 28 HD but I'm not sure I should spend that much and come up without Side Imaging.
any thoughts on how well this new technology and color helps over just good mono-chrome technology???
thanks
If you don't mind me asking...where are you getting the LCX 28 from and how much $. I've been looking around for one at a good price since the new Lowrance HD units are out.
Re: Sonar/GPS/ Side Imaging Help
Video previews of the Lowrance side imaging unit. The images are amazing.

Re: Sonar/GPS/ Side Imaging Help
You have the 798 or 788? The 788 is just a GPS/Sonar combo (which I have on our boat), while the 798 is that plus side imaging. The 798 is the cheapest of the three side imaging units Humminbird offers.
the one that is a step down from the side imaging the 788ci combo with the internal gps i got it before i got the 1197c si combo. and the first one i got was the fishfinder 565 and all three are awsome. i have all three hooked up i have a 1988 dynatrak fish and ski with a rebilt 1988 mercury black max 150 the 565 is on the passenger side dash the 788ci is in the dash on the driver side and the 1197c si is in the front hooked to the trolling motor.

i watched the clip of the lowrance structure scan and it is the same thing as the humminbird side imaging, they say they are the leader in fish finders but it looks like they are followers. just my 2 cents
thanks

What do you think of the 565 for a bow unit? Looks like a lot of bang for $200.
Re: Sonar/GPS/ Side Imaging Help
Well (since you brought followers up) :D
Actually Humminbird is following too (so to speak) as they ONLY have the side imaging from buying out "Bottom line" which were the true pioneers in this field ......
Seems like Lowrance did pioneer color and made the very first fish finders (little green box ring any bells) :D

i did not know that bottom line started the side imaging, it realy dont matter they all will have some sort of side imaging garmin, lowrance, eagle. cant wait to see what the next new thing will be. it will take alot to beat the side imaging.
Re: Sonar/GPS/ Side Imaging Help
Sorry,
My "attempt at humor" (with a tad bit of history) was mostly in jest. :)
Re: Sonar/GPS/ Side Imaging Help
A was sent a few pictures of Cedar Creek before it was flooded. The realisim of seeing what and how they put cover in that lake has about got me sold on side imaging. I have fished Cedar a few times but had no idea what I was looking at in a few spots. I don't know if it will make me a better fisherman but it has to help me with confidence on off shore fishing which I currently lack.
