I would never intentionally damage someone elses property - then you are no better, perhaps even worse as they probably didn't know any better, and didn't mean to run over your line. It still ***** people with no respect or knowledge of water ettiquette are allowed to operate a boat on public water.

I think the line around the prop, eventually eating into the seals, would have been enough lesson. If he didn't have the common sense to respect someones space on the water, I very seriously doubt, he will check his prop and shaft for stuff like that - my guess is he will need a new lower unit in after a summer's worth or running with water in lower unit oil.

Ding, Ding, Ding we have a winner. I call B.S. as well, it is what your friend wanted to do, but never really did it.

I'm sure it felt good to do that but it did teach the kids a bad way to deal with fools. Unfortunately, he taught them a lesson that he may regret one day.

Cutting the wench was breaking the law and running over the line was just dum.Do on too other's as you would want done too you.Just dum and dummer.

I gotta agree that cutting a winch line over 20 feet of mono, a hook, a bobber, and a few split shots is nonsense. The world is full of jerks, better learn to deal with it.

If something absolutely had to be done, I would have deflated both his trailer tires by 50% but in all likelyhood I would have left a blistering note on his windshield.

My 2 cents...... Yes they were rude and inconsiderate. Probably didn't even realize what they did until it happened then they left the area. they showed some courtisey even after the deed was done.

I read this post a few days ago and had to close down the computer and think on it for a second as it was pretty baffling that someone would actually write this on here. My conclusion was the same as most every one elses: both parties are wrong, and the "friend's" action was criminal. I doubt this even really happened. And, if it did, I really, really, really hope that pleasure boater finds you and your friend, takes his remaining winch strap and wraps it around....

The amount of damage that could have been caused, or may have caused, is certainly a lot more than a plastic boober is worth. It seems more jerky to me to not even consider that others could be harmed and/or killed by your action and the only thing that got hurt by the jerk's action was your pride and a some monofiliment. The one thing that would make this story half way interesting is if you found yourself driving behind that guy's trailer when his boat slipped off at 55mph. That would be an eye for an eye - tit for tat. Cutting a winch strap for a plastic boober, 10 feet of line, and a hook, is more like a head for a toenail. Just plain wrong.
Finally, if you and your buddy were just so overwhelmed that this guy was a jerk (btw ever been to a lake in KY - there are more jerks than bass) why didn't you wait for them to come back in and have words with them? Or as has been suggested leave a nasty note. Even a note suggesting that you knew what he drove and he's lucky that you didn't... etc., etc. may have at least prevented him from being a jerk the next time he's out. Most jerks are such royal jerks they don't even know that they are jerks until someone points it out to them and sheds light on to what exactly makes that person an a-hole. Funny thing is he probably knew right away that it was you knuckleheads when he got back to the dock and now he's got a grudge and will be buzzin' every line and bank fisherman he sees for the rest of his life. That's how jerks roll.

Tell your friend to stop fishing around ramps. They're there for loading and unloading boats, not fishing.

Idiots raising up idiots raising up idiots... Any the cycle continues. This is for both parties involved... "Have some self-control and behave like a responsible adult." People are watching you whether you like it or not.

I think I saw them fellas on Sunday. Except they were in Louisville on the Ohio River and were using jet skis. They kept buzzing around the ramp and one one point even passed between the boat and the trailer I was trying to load it up on.

This story is great...one idiot responds to another idiot by doing something even more idiotic! And the cycle continues....:cool:

Not something I would do, probaly think about it, but would never risk someones life just to get back at someone being an idiot, plus what kind of lesson are you teaching your son, because I guarantee you the guy in the boats Dad is a idiot just like him, because he learned it from somewhere!
