Re: Obama is a LIGHTWEIGHT
[QUOTE=GeoFisher;372435]You know........when Reagan was faced with a VERY SIMILAR thing.........he said "Mr Gorbechev..........TEAR DOWN THAT WALL"..........
And don't DOUBT one bit that this uprising in Iran is JUST AS IMPORTANT for world affairs.

What "VERY SIMILAR thing" are you talking about? The events leading up to that famous speech at the Brandenburg Gate were nothing like what's going on in Iran today. At that time, the increased tensions between us and the USSR were mainly due to OUR military buildup, especially when it came to stationing missiles in Europe. And I'm not saying we were right or wrong to do it, just that THAT was what the fuss was all about at that time. Now, we have a Middle East country clamping down on dissent after a disputed ELECTION. Besides, communism was on the decline long before Reagan gave that speech, and saying that those words, memorable though they may be, contributed directly to its demise, is WAY overstating the case. Communism fell the same way that Islamist theocratic fascism will fall; it crumbled from within. THAT is what we are witnessing today in Iran, and for now, we're doing the right thing taking a "wait and see" position.
Look at what Obama said in Cairo, then look at what's happening now in Iran. It makes the man look almost psychic. Like him or not, you've gotta admit he NAILED it on that one!

Not sure what planet you were living on back then, but your attitude of blaming our country irritates the hell out of me. "Increased tensions"? Spare me! Spare us all the guilt trip every liberal in and out of government is using right now.
Russia had a substantially larger military, more missiles, and a puppet state just off our Florida coast. Russia has been known throughout history to take (eastern Germany, Chechoslovakia, etc) what they wanted unless stopped by the only thing they ever responded to...force. Those missiles in Europe and the strengthening of our Jimmy Carter (the first one, not the one in the oval office right now) weakened military had a lot to do with the USSR downfall.
Their real demise was their communist/socialist economic system which collapsed under it's own weight. The very same kind of system our current federal government is trying their darndest to put in place right now.
That famous speech you mention was in large part made possible by a strong U.S. military and our missiles pointed at the head of the former USSR.
Re: Obama is a LIGHTWEIGHT
I wonder what code language President Obama was sending to the protesters that were dying in the streets when he said it didn't matter who won. President Obama is going against his instincts to criticize countries that aren't our friends. He has established that it's our fault when he made his world apology tour.

The ironic thing here is the demonstrations aren't about any fundamental change in their government, it's about replacing one Islamic theocratic facist with another. Maybe one even worse than the imbecile they have now. Not sure how that's qualifies as crumbling from within, but I hope you're right.
