Re: Palin's resignation
Big difference between Nixon and Clinton. Nixon conducted illegal activities. Clinton cheated on his wife. Imoral yes, but illegal, no. No reason for him to resign. Might also consider that one of the main ones leading the charge against Clinton (Gingrich) was also having an affair at the same time.
I agree with the rest, government should fear the people, not the other way around.

Re: Palin's resignation
I'm very sorry to see her quit, she is one of my heroes. Maybe she's just had enough. Maybe there's some kind of scandal. Either way she's still my hero.
How many people could take what she's taken?
What would get me is the abuse to my family. You can do most anything to me and I never really get deep down mad. Someone messing with my family, speshly my wife or daughter has made a life changing mistake. I still fantasize about knocking David Letterman out cold as a tater for his remarks about Ms Palin's daughter. Bet Todd Palin would enjoy cracking a few jokes with him in a private setting too.

Bill Clinton didn't get impeached for having a fling with an intern. He did, however, get impeached for breaking laws ascociated with covering up the fling, that was very illegal. Nixon got impeached for the coverup not the breaking and entering from what I remember. End result was Bill Clinton finished his term and Nixon didn't.
As for Palin, she quit. Now all the mud slingers on both sides know that it works.

He was acquitted.

Nixon never got impeached at all. Facing almost certain impeachment and removal from office, he resigned. Then Ford pardoned him.
We're really talking apples and oranges here. The voting in the Clinton case was split exactly along party lines. No political motivation there, eh? Nixon would have been virtually unanimously convicted.

The affair was not the issue......
Clinton lying to a special investigator, Congress, and the American People....THAT was the issue.
So, you think it was completely OK for Clinton to get on the tube, look DIRECTLY into about 200 million eyes, and say "I did NOT have sexual relations with that woman".....
Yea, RIGHT.
The Lying is what got him into trouble.........
Had he said It happened.........it's OVER......NOW, lets get on with business, it would have been done.
AND what ever happened to being able to have a personal life. There was a time when the press had BOUNDARIES......that time started to change with the way the PRESS covered the Vietnam War, and it has gone downhill ever since.

Re: Palin's resignation
You are correct, Clinton was charged with lying under oath about having an affair. I still question why he was asked to testify about this. Until he lied under oath, was there an illegal activity that he was accused of? Just another one of those repub fishing expeditions. And no, i do not think what Clinton did was ok.
Nixon, on the other hand, had conducted illegal activities (authorizing the break in, covering it up, lying about it, abuse of power, and several other things). Several of Nixon's advisors and aids had already been charged and convicted. Nixon was next, so resigned before he was impeached. Dems and Repubs were pretty much united in impeaching Nixon.

Re: Palin's resignation
This all goes to my point. If Ronald Regan did anything close to what Bill Clinton did, you bet I would be on the lawn of the white house and it wouldn't be in support like the dems did with Clinton. I would be calling for him to step down. We will never get control of the scoundrels if we don't have the backbone to stand up to them. They are all crooks and if they don't fear us they will keep on doing what they do. It makes me sick to have the bums being defended by the ones that voted them in. Clinton lied to federal investigators, which is against the law. He suborned purgery, against the law. He lied to a grand jury, his fellow citizens. Of course our leaders didn't have the backbone to actually impeach him. So now all following skumbags say Bill is their model. Noone can say anything to them because Bill got away with it. As for Tricky Richard Nixon, the only thing he did right was to step down. He was a crook and got what he deserved. Now if we can only make an example out of the next crook to come along without half of the country defending them. YEs I get fired up. I'm not looking for the perfect person to run our country, just ones that know the difference between right and wrong. NO it's not relative or grey.
He won't get kicked out. Bill Clinton did the same thing and he is labeled as a great president. The morals of this country have gone down the tubes. Look at the big circus put on for Michael Jackson! He was a very talented entertainer but also an accused child molester.
Did you just put "Clinton" and "Great President" in teh same sentence? Bad hair day or what?

"There was a time when the press had BOUNDARIES......"
Geo,
Agreed, the press can go too far. But remember back when men also had Morale and Ethical boundaries? I think the press has gotten more zealous, only because as watch dogs they simply have more now to try to bring to light. I want that watch dog out there, and I agree, sometimes they will be right, and sometimes they will be wrong.

I don't know........I'm not too sure.........Seems I really don't care if Clinton had his way with an intern. SAME as I don't care what Kennedy did. Same as I don't care if BUSH partied a little too hard as a kid........same as..........Well you get the picture.
I want them to LEAD.........and NOT LIE about stuff.
I'm afraid the press will now feel it is their right to dig up CRAP on candidates, instead of dealing with the issues at hand.........BUT that is the "New Press".

I think you are missing the point Clinton was not just cheating on his wife he was cheating on his wife with the hired help. A young intern if this is not criminal it should be if you were her parents and sent her to work in the white house would you not be appalled that the President of the United States took advantage of her? It also was done in the oval office (not in the living quarters) which he disgraced the highest position in our nation and the democrats just laughed at it. I am a republican and if the circumstances were the same and he was a republican president I would be asking him to step down just as we asked Nixon and I think the Governor of South Carolina should step down. I think that is the difference between the republican and the democrats.
I have a friend who is a staunch democrat and we discussed this about Clinton and his answer “well he is a son ** * ****** but he is our son ** * *****” That does not cut it in my book.
