Re: Obama threw the first pitch, LOL
An interesting choice of words, "hired" as opposed to elected. If politicians were hired they could be fired, and our country could lay President Obama off like the millions of other workers in the last 6 months. No such luck, we get to stand by and watch the President and his liberal majority install the disaster known as cap and trade, destroy the nation's healthcare system, and hang trillions more debt on us.
The jobless rate is a full 1.5 points over Mr Obama's guaranteed 8%. You remember that promise, it was back when he rammed the oh-so-well-thought-out 900 billion dollar 'stimulus' bill through. You know the one nobody was given a chance to read before it's passage. Kinda like buying yourself a 500k home on credit and hanging the loan on your kids who aren't even born yet. Not to worry folks, trust us. We'll make the rich pay the tab. And the news media fawned, and the masses cheered...
No President and his party through their whole tenure in office has ever pissed away the mind numbing amounts of money the current administration has. Incredibly these folks have accomplished it in their first 6 months in power, and there's much more to come.
No President in our history will ever come even remotely close to the damage Mr. Obama and the Dimocracks will do over the next 3 1/2 years. The only question is will we manage to remain the proudly independent United States of America or be molded into a second rate European style social democracy.
So you were also on here slamming the last guy for his spend and borrowing for the 8 years too, right? After all, your kids and grand kids are paying for those blunders. I seem to recall the current economic mess starting under the last administration. So, remind me again what their plan was? Oh yeah, thats right, do nothing so the next guy can take the heat. Brillant plan! Last time we tried that was Hoover. You might remember reading about the great depression in history class.
Kind of early to be critizing for the damage done don't you think? It will be a while before we know the outcome of these desisions. Hell, it will be a while before we can fully know the outcome of desisions the last two administrations made. I do know that my 401K was tanking for 3 quarters straight. The last quarter, it reversed a lot of that. Job losses are slowing, housing market improving. Signs that we are pulling out of the recession?
Do I agree with everything that has been done over the last six months, no, but I am willing to give them the chance to fix things and head us in the right direction. Don't like how things are going, vote out the dems in the mid-term elections. In some respects, it might not be a bad idea anyway. Have a dem Pres and a repub congress. Make the crooks work together and keep each other in check.
You want real change? How about this. Change the tax laws to a flat percentage of income. No loop holes. Everyone pays the same percentage (10%, 15%, whatever). Having to spend several hours to figure out taxes, use a computer program or hire an accountant is ridiculous. Welfare, sure, but its only a fall back for short periods to get someone through a crisis or tough spot. Sure, society owes some folks (a parent dies in the military we as a society have an obiligation to assist in raising their kids, for example). Set it up so you pay into a fund. You can only take out what you put in. If you take none out by the time you retire, you have an extra retirement plan. Line item veto (yeah, I know, they fumbled something like that under Clinton). President can veto the pork out of a bill. Congress doesn't like it, they can over ride each pork project. Easier to keep them accountable that way. Term limits, NOW! I really doubt that our founding fathers intended people to spend 30-40 years in congress.

Some of Bush's spending was HORRIBLE.......some was not. Military action in IRAQ and Afghanistan, if you ask me was a REQUIREMENT. The largest health care expenditures to date on Pharmacy RX......BAD IDEA......but nothing like what Obama is proposing.
Bush did a few things wrong, and a LOT of THINGS RIGHT.....so far, Obama has done a LOT wrong, and few, if any things right.....
Yea Andy.....go back and read history a little.....FDR didn't help things.....he prolonged the depression by oh say.........10 YEARS. Lots of reasons there, and LOTS of our EXISTING problems were developed out of NEW DEAL mentality.
AND the current financial crisis was STARTED by Democrats......FUNDED by DEMOCRATS, and reFUNDED by DEMOCRATS....Lets not forget about the CRA....that is the piece of CRAP legislation that started the ball rolling for people making minimum wage to purchase an $80,000 piece of property....NOTHING ELSE.

Glad your 401K is rebounding........NO ONE ELSE's IS........
AND I don't mind spending programs when the program is DEFINED, and FUNDED. The plans on the table are not defined, and NOT FUNDED.
Bush used 1/2 of the TARP approved money....got it out to people QUICKLY....and those banks that were part of the original round of TARP, which I HATE by the WAY......have paid some of it back.
Obama........well....he's DONE NOTHING........except create a Car CZAR, fire a CAR CZAR, Buy an Auto company, buy ANOTHER AUTO COMPANY......FIRE a Auto Company CEO.....by a few BANKS.....and some other REALLY CRAZY CRAP.
AND don't KID YOURSELF....the last quarter NOTHING reversed itself.......markets are still down, and are bouncing more than EVER.......MORE THAN EVER.....meaning lots if indecision in the market....hardly a stabilization.

How can you measure success when there are no plans for ANY of the programs he wants to JAM down our throats.
Health CARE hearings the EXACT TIME the SENATE confirmation hearings are going on.....GREAT TRANSPARENCY.
Obama is trying to get as much stuff passed right now, because after 3rd quarter earnings come out, and congress leaves for their summer recess.......NOTHING ELSE.....EVER from this admin will be passed, and he knows it.......
Obama numbers are slipping REALLY HARD right now........
We had a mixed bag for the previous 2 years.........Don't forget Pelosi and her bag of loons have been in office for 2 years.....they won the HOUSE and the SENATE 2 years ago....and they accomplished NOTHING in 2 YEARS.......FANTASTIC.
Yes, lets make the CROOKS work together..........and they are all crooks......only which ones to you trust more...

I couldn't agree more with your last paragraph, everything in it is dead on. Yeah, I'd love REAL change like the flat tax, but I'll pass on the Obama/Pelosi/Franks/Reid flavor of change. Let's see...I'm thinking of a word...it's coming to me...oh yeah, socialism.
Come on Andrew, Mr Obama has outspent the last several Presidents combined in only his first 6 months. Comparing the current administration's spending habits to anyone else in history is not possible. Sure Mr. Bush overspent, but he was a Scrooge compared to President Obama and the merry band of radicals in control of congress.
Blaming the last administration for the economy can only wash so long, especially after the stimulus bill's billions of borrowed dollars was supposed to have fixed it.
How long do you want to wait before assessing the damage? Till the federal government has borrowed us bankrupt and controls every facet of our lives? That soon enough, or should we give him more time?
After the moves his administration has made along with the ones they're trying to make now, I cannot for the life of me see how ANYONE can still be in a wait and see pattern for this President.
It appears this country's media and citizens are so busy celebrating our new half-black-half-white black President it doesn't matter what he does. Hey look at us world! We're not racists anymore, and to prove it we'll let Barack Obama do whatever he dang well pleases.
Re: Obama threw the first pitch, LOL
Geo, I think a couple of my feelings would have been hurt had you not responded :p You had me thinking I was some kind of ecomonic guru with such excellent fund picks that my 401k was going up while everyone else's was still tanking. Then I did a quick google and found that, while the stock market has bounced around a lot, it has steadily increased increased for the last 6 months (http://money.cnn.com/quote/chart/chart.html?symb=spx&sid=3377&time=6mo&Submit1=Refresh or google yourself) judging by the S&P 500. (btw, Andrew, not Andy).
Glad to see that you and DH appreciated the last paragraph and are coming around to my way of thinking. There is hope for both of you yet :D
DH, ecomonic problems started under Clinton and got no better under Bush. And yes, the current rate of spending does make me uneasy. I don't think anyone expected the stimulus to magically bounce us right out of a recession immediately.

Obama DID........they practically PROMISED that spending 800 billion dollars would stop unemployment.....and it DEFINITELY would NOT rise above 9%. Well we're PAST that..and headed towards 10 and beyond.

Re: Obama threw the first pitch, LOL
The truly sad part in all of this mess, is that my kids are going to be the ones that will be stuck with the bill. I wish I could say that when I die, that I will be leaving my kids in a more secure country. However, how can I say that when they will be stuck (along with their kids, and their kid's kids, etc.) with the bill from all this ridiculous spending. I can justify spending money to protect America and my kid's safety (Iraq, Afghanistan). But, to spend money to bail out greedy banks, automakers, and to provide socialist care to those who haven't worked a day in their life....I OBJECT!
I just hope in 3 1/2 yrs, when we win the presidency back, that the US isn't so far destroyed that we can't repair it. It frustrates me beyond belief to have seen this coming, and been powerless to stop it due to nut jobs who bought into this hook line and sinker without one lick of common sense. And now, those same people, are backing out as quick as they can. FRUSTRATING!!!
And as for Obama's sports skills...can't bowl, throw, or jump....If I was him, I sure wouldn't be talking like I've got mad athletic skills! It's like the guy that talks smack on the court and can't hit a shot. EMBERASSING!

Sorry........
AND I looked at my own 401k, and you're right there........I've seen about a 10% increase over the past 6months........but that is a FAR CRY from the 65% losses....
I'd love to see some of that come back and this 10% pop REALLY helps.
