Re: Professor Gates
Yea he kinda reminds me of Louis aka ''troublemaker'' Coleman. Man.........slavery is over get over it, let it go. Why do so many of these type's continue this cycle of hate by keeping it constantly on the front burner.
I worked here in the office with a fellow for 15 years he has since moved on to another job. He is a black man. A educated, clean cut, well spoken, considerate, Christian, caring black man. In fact I was proud to call him my friend and still stay in touch to this very day. He grew up and still lives in the same house he has fixed up on Cecil Avenue in the West End of Louisville. He has never been arrested for anything and asks nothing from society that he doesn't feel he has worked hard for at his job or civically.
What's my point you ask??? A minority of any ethnic background has endless oppurtunities in this country today. He chose a path which was layed down by his parents, his mother was a wonderful person, to be a productive citizen in society. He did not choose a life of crime and growing up feeling that everybody owed him something because he is black. He payed his own way through college, WORKING, to get his education and better his life and to take care of his mother as she fought horrible health issues the last 7 to 8 years of her life. These are the kinda of people that I admire and and consider productive citizens and I don't give a rat's butt what color they are. I personally think that alot of this racial crap is way overblown. I also think as did the man I just spoke of thought that alot of the inner city young people bring alot of their problems on themselves with the general perception they have casted upon their own kind.
Put yourself in Ryan's shoes just for a second. He is patroling his beat and there is not much going on. Throughout his years as a police officer MANY of the arrests he has made have been young black males up to no good. He see's a Hoopte coming down the street with 4 black males in it in the middle of a normal work day. Three of them are wearing Dew rags in a gang fashion, Ryan knows what I'm talking about. They are doing 5 miles over the speed limit, bid deal..........but does he check them out and run their I'D's? Would you??? Statistics say that at least one or more of those 4 in that car have a felony warrant for their arrest, check it out I guarantee it. Is that racial profling or is it Ryan doing his job correctly. For me it's him doing his job keeping the city and it's residents safe. I read something recently that said almost 60% of serious crimes are committed by young black men in this country. These are facts compiled by the criminal justice system in this country.
Just put on the Cop shoes and walk the path in your mind, and ask yourself....What would I do.
Ryan, I hope you didn't mind me using your name as a reference, of course I was just metaforically speaking and was not trying to imply anything.

Re: Professor Gates
I remember as a teen that sometimes I would come home from school and the entire house would be locked up and I wouldn't have a key. The only way in was through the side window into the garage. I'm sure it didn't look good seeing two feet sticking out of a window. If someone had called the police on me, I would have been nothing but polite and respectful and cooperative. I think the Prof should have thanked the policeman for doing his job. What if noone had come to check it out after it being called in. I'm sure there would have been some talk of racism for that also. Bottom line is the police have a very difficult job that is made worse by those who will not cooperate and are combative.
As for the President, he should have waited for all the details to come out before responding. I know it was his friend, but he is the President of the United States. Show some smarts. Now he has basically told millions of people that it is ok to act the way this man acted. Can't be good for the police.

Maybe there are so many minorities in prison because they commit the majority of crimes. I also have black friends and we discuss racial issues almost every day. We have jointly come to the conclusion that there are dirt bags in all races but there is a larger percentage of minority dirt bags. I still judge a person on how they act individually. But if minorities are obviously committing more crimes then they should be watched more closely by law enforcement. If gang graffiti is a problem why should the cops be pulling over 70 year old womaen? Profiling is a scientifically proven police method so they should use it!

Re: Professor Gates
[QUOTE=GeoFisher;375930]Gates is another BLACK man with a chip on his shoulder.......HE along with the Sharptons of the world continue the VICIOUS circle of racism..........
The police officer was there TRYING to PROTECT Gates's property.....
Gates escalated the issue by becoming combative.........AND he GOT ARRESTED......it is a **** SHAME the charges were dropped......but that probably happened because Hates.......I MEAN gates has a high priced harvard lawyer friend defending him..........The PD didn't want to spend the money prosecuting this FOOL.
Finally if the police officer was as bad as GATES says, then why would this be said about him??
"Fellow officers, black and white, say he is well-liked and respected on the force. Crowley was a campus police officer at Brandeis University in July 1993 when he administered CPR trying to save the life of former Boston Celtics player Reggie Lewis. Lewis, who was black, collapsed and died during an off-season workout."
HM.........Gates is...........a BLACK man, who has OBVIOUSLY been kept down by white man's society....

Re: Professor Gates
Here's a hypothetical for you.......
If the cop would have been BLACK, what would Gates have done.
* Would he have questioned the authority of a BLACK Cop??
* Would he have called the cop an Uncle Tom, or WORSE..........you know what I mean.
I think both of the above would have happened.......the more I think about it, Gates was looking for his 15 minutes of fame, and this cop just so happened to provide it.
I believe GATES will milk this for ALL it is WORTH, including, photo ops with POTUS, a book deal, a PBS special.......hell, maybe even a MOVIE.
Yep............gotta love it.
