Comparing Calipari to Pitino?
Funny but wasn't the Derrick Caracter story the same as Wall?
Deener was pointing out how Caracter had esentially the exact same issues when he arrived on campus. Said he had to pay back some money, sit out 3 games, and all was good. He kept talking about how if that was a non-issue, then there is no reason to blow this up unless more facts come out.
In other words - When UL was in the exact same position with Caracter, it was a simple fix. Now when UK is in the same boat, UL's PR rep (4d) makes it national news and Wall should be declared inelligible, Calipari should be banned from the sport, and UK should suffer the death penalty.
If it weren't so sad, it would be funny.
Funny but Calipari never did any of this
1977 N.C.A.A. report on sanctions against Hawaii that implicated Pitino in 8 of the 64 violations that led to the university being placed on two years' probation.
The violations involving Pitino included providing round-trip air fare for a player between New York and Honolulu, arranging for student-athletes to receive used cars for season tickets, and handing out coupons to players for free food at McDonald's.
He was also cited, along with the head coach, Bruce O'Neil, for providing misinformation to the N.C.A.A. and University of Hawaii officials.
The N.C.A.A. committee on infractions recommended in 1977 that Pitino and O'Neil be disassociated from Hawaii athletics.
I also find this Pitino Quote Hilarious
"Pitino reiterated his point that his family would be the overridding consideration in his decision.
''The most important things in my life are my three young boys and my wonderful wife,'' he said, ''and I'm trying to make a situation where they have roots. Wherever I'm going, someday, I want to stay for a long, long period of time, because I've moved around quite a bit, and I'm tired of moving. I want my children to go through high school with their friends, grammar r school with their friends and have a good, stable life"
Wonder if Karen Sypher knew this?
Split, let preface what I am about to say with the following comment: I despise Pat Forde, not for his takes as a sports writer, but because of a run in we had when we were co-workers. I used to work in the sports department a the C-J and if Pat Forde fell off the second street bridge as I was driving over it, I probably wouldn't be able to reach my cell phone in time.
All that being said, Pat Forde is one of the best sports journalis IN HISTORY! If you really had an insiders view, he is that good. He is as good of a writer as I have read and he has the investigative know-how to break news. All this being said, Pat was just the first one to break the news, but this investigation has been going on a for a bit.
Oh yeah, I forgot to add, your confidence in Sandy Bell is well founded. After all, she found Randolph Morriss' maigc fax after he went undrafted in the NBA!
Pat Forde falling off the second street bridge...that's a funny one T!
I agree that this deal with Wall is nothing new and has been going on awhile, just not everyone knew about it. Forde got the honor of breaking it nationally on ESPN...and while the article is about Sidney at Miss State and Wall at KY, of course the article balances out about 95%-Wall/5%-Sidney. Forde is a good writer, writes very well, and I'll surely take your word given your profession that he has top notch investigative prowess...but I still think he's a douchebag who loves to smear UK. I don't know the history of his UL smears, but with enough Card fans that hate him too I'm sure it's truth. Cards and Cats should unite and leave flaming bags of poo on this dude's doorstep every night, 365 days a year. :)
I love Cal and his energy, his passion, his hype, his showtime...but he makes me nervous...I hope Sandy got a pay increase. These AAU deals and top-20 players with 5-stars on their back are going to keep the compliance department running around like H&R Block on April 14th 24/7/365.
Ahhh yes, and the "Magic Fax"...LOL...I'll agree, even as a Cat fan, that was the hokieist crap EVER. :D
Re: It's already starting
If Pat Forde is such a great writer then why does he report BS untruths with agenda's against UK in other stories? It's a plain simple fact he is a UK Hater and always has been, this story is not some big breaking news,it's been known about for 5 or 6 months ,but Forde tries to make it look like some major cheating when it's a simple matter of who spent a couple $$ on what that happens all the time.At worst Wall will have to repay a few bucks,The guy lost his agent license pre-2008.He was an AAU coach, whoopee.
When is Forde going to break the story on the car T-Will was driving around last year? Or how Pitino hired Marquis Teagues Coach?Stupid Louisville fans have been shown how Pitino is a Cheater but refuse to get it in their head.
An Abortion a Day Keeps the Child Support Away!!!!!
T-Will was driving a car he bought and paid for and it is perfectly legal. Wall, Cuzzins and Patterson may all be doing the same shortly. You can secure a loan based on your income potential. I know Griffith did it, they borrow the money before going to the NBA and repay the loan when they are drafted, or when they sign with an agent. How do you think LeBron's mom bought him Hummer for his 18th birthday?
If Pitino was such a cheater how come his Final Four banners are still hanging?
I will get back with you shortly on the hiring of the coach from Indy, because your statement is misleading. Oh btw, that is perfectly legal to hire a high school coach, it happens all the time, even your beloved Cats have done it. How long did Dennis Johnson's dad stay on the football coaching staff once his son was gone?
Re: It's already starting
They hired him in the basketball offices and he is not an atcual assistant coach. Also, at Teagues high school he was an assistant and wanting to get involved in college coaching so most likely he will be working in video, breaking down tapes and getting them ready for the coaching staff to watch. Teague has still not officilally comitted.
BTW, has coach Cal ever done this? Does the name Milt Wagner ring a bell? If I am not mistaken Milt had a son that was the number one recruit in his class. Where did young Mr. Wagner go to school?
Is it slimy to use a private jet to go hang out and watch high school games and talk to kids, and basically recruit them, when you are getting ready to take a coaching job, but are not officially a coach just yet?

REPORT: KENTUCKY'S HIGHLY TOUTED FRESHMAN DEALING WITH ELIGIBILITY ISSUE
Thursday, October 22, 2009, 08:42 PM EST [General]
Kentucky’s talented freshman point guard John Wall, the front-runner to become the top overall pick in this June’s NBA Draft, is dealing with eligibility issues due to his relationship with his AAU coach.
Brian Clifton, who coached him with the D-One Sports team, is a former certified agent.
ESPN.com’s Pat Forde and Dana O’Neil first reported the story on Thursday night after speaking with SEC commissioner Mike Slive.
``Those are amateur issues that arose prior to their coming to our schools,” Slive said. ``Those are strictly amateurism issues. As we told our people, somebody needs to determine if they are eligible. It’s not relative to you, it’s relative to them.”
Sources close to the situation have told FOXSports.com that Wall will likely be cleared prior to Kentucky’s season-opener – which is on Nov. 13 against Morehead State at Rupp Arena.
Bottom line is this whole "Breaking" story has been known since every school was recruiting Wall,Slime Ball Pat Forde took his agenda and made a mountain out of a speck of dust.
Wonder if it has any connection to him and Pitino writing a book together? I also wonder if Forde ever bumps his head on Pitino's desk when climbing out from underneath it?
Re: It's already starting
I don't think it's shallow comparing Pitino and Calipari. Pitino's issues more recently have been personal life issues, but my guess is if you'd cheat on your wife you'd probably do a "little extra" to get that 5 star recruit. I don't think either program is all that clean but the ole' saying goes "if you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin'". You can't win today by dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's. I find it very comparable to the steroid situation in baseball. This kind of stuff happens every day at every major program - the only problem is now in the technology age you can't get away with it any more. Too many people want to be the one to break the "big news". I almost wish they could get away with it like they used to...........
I the fan just want to see some good quality basketball games this year.........
Re: It's already starting
I'm not a Pitino fan club member, I respect what he does and he is **** good at it but he is a slick willy slime ball. No need to get upset because it's just my opinion but the guy is like a politician. Power, money. lies, women and a HUGE ego.
It is very funny how UK has been an easy target for jokes (even by me) with their recent coaches but as soon as they get a big name coach people (media) are looking to tear him down even when he hasn't done anything wrong.
Just consider the media source and the motive and then look at the story and it reads as self serving for P.F.....Heck with all this lets see them play ball!
Re: It's already starting
Hey guys don't assume I'm a Pitino worshiper because I'm not. Quite frankly I support him only because he coaches my team. I am not the 1000 dollar suit New Yorker type by any means and really can't warm up to that at all. So since this thread has turned into a my Dad is better than your Dad THREAD like I new it would let me clear that one up right now.
In fact has human beings I don't like either of them as they are both Yankee Italian Gangsta wanna be's. I'm more of a Joe B. Hall kinda guy or a Denny Crum guy, them boys can hunt and fish. Can you see Ricky or Calimari with a baitcaster in their hand. LOL.
But I will say this to. All you loyal Cat fans that bash Pitino right now was seriously on his Jock at one time and you **** well know it!

There are very few Cat fans, regardless of what they say, who wouldn't have taken Slick Rick back in a heartbeat after Tubbs left...

Re: It's already starting
