Real Gun Control

the biggest argument against gun ownership is that it breeds violent crime. you folks can take my word for it, or do your own research. there are several countries that we can compare the US to (mainly european). these countries have several factors to look at, one being gun control issues. the other major two factors are cultural values, and the legal system of the country. the US has some of the highest violent crime rates in the world, compared to similar countries. take for instance japan, where firearms are practically outlawed, and the crime rate is significantly lower. this is where gun rights get a bad name. however, look at switzerland, where gun rights are still in place, and the crime rate is again, significantly lower. this, in turn, somewhat debunks gun control as the answer. what these two countries do have in common are a high sense of cultural values and norms, and legal systems that lean more towards rehabilitation. this is an extremely simplified version of this school of thought. for anymore information on the subject, check out two books. the first is called "the rich get richer, the poor get prison", and "crime and the american dream". the second one is where most of this info comes from. it also is somewhat anti-gun, but the major points far outweigh the anti-gun theory. again....more food for thought.

Guys I almost never get into these gun discussions because I don't know where I am in regards to the subject.....am not a christian person or believer in any other religion...I am about half way across the page on the gun control issue....I do disagree with Rich in that I think if somebody steals from you and it wouldn't bother you personally and the legal system wouldn't lock you up for killing somebody then you should have the right to stop that person even if that meant shooting him in the back or where ever....I never shot anybody nor do I think that will ever happen.... I think if I did then it would probably bother me having to live with the aftermath of doing that.

I have my CCDW permit and I know I said it before but I hope I never have to use it to shoot someone especially if they died. Your life is gonna change and prolly for the worse. We can all come up with situations of how and when but when the reality of someone making you decide on what to do pops up noone is 100% prepared. JMHO

I'm gonna talk them down and tell them I voted for Obama so we can be friends...he can then have whats left of my money.:p

We have enough gun control. What we need now is idiot control.

If you really want facts about the U.S. (I don't care about Europe or Swirzerland, I don't live there) try reading something a little more relevant such as "More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun-Control Laws" by John R. Lott Jr.
