Re: A Little F-n-F on the Creek
I will also have a topwater tied on saturday...but im mainly going to hopefully stick one on the fly......cumberland is a clear deep lake and just because fish are looking up to feed doesnt mean they wont come outta 20ft to hit the fly....and if they don't then i spent a few hours on the water with good company which is way better than spendin a few hours at work

Totally agree on all points. I'm looking forward to it.
I'm walking the bank, so I really don't check water temps...I just go with the flow..LOL!!!!
But if I had to guess I'd have to say high 50's. I heard that was what Stoners temp was on Thurs. Frymans pool is about the same as the pool I live on in width...Depth...mine averages about 2-3ft shallower....which will cool and heat more quickly. I plan to do a lot of bank fishing down there this winter. I've got a few more spots I need to clear off...But we'll see....
Billy,
I'm not opposed to bank fishing the FNF if you ever want some company ;)
I'm not too far away and I like fishing Elkhorn.

Saturday at daylight works for me too. I don't mind to pick up a few flies or let him use some of mine. I was going to ask you if he was going because if not, I was going to see if my brother could go.

You may get one on the fly but the water temps may be a bit too high. If you try it, use a LONG leader to give the fish that are still deep a chance to see it. My bet is the jig and maybe a jerkbait or two will produce this weekend. I would say the fish are still in 15-20 foot of water on points and secondary points with any severe depth changes close by. good luck and catch one for me, I will be at the football field with 8 - 5 and 6 yr olds in a TRIPLE HEADER, yep, 3 games in one day to make up for the recent rainouts. Should be fun

I'll go along with that. Sorry guys I'm not dissing the fly it just bores me to tears. When guys are at Cumberland in the dead of winter saying all they are hitting on is the fly we are still catching fish on cranks, jigs, jerkbaits, and even 1/2 to 1 ounce bucktail jigs. That stuff about smallmouth only hit little baits in the winter is a load of bull. Ask the guys that throw striper plugs at night in December and January at Cumberland what hits their baits all the time.
I need to shut up I'm letting way too much good info loose, lol. Have fun fellas, to each his own and I wish you all the best in your f-n-f endeavors.

Why????????????
Re: A Little F-n-F on the Creek
If a man wants to try the F-n-F let him...I'm stubborn...I have caught fish on the fly in Oct at Cland 2yrs ago......some Ky's. But I'd rather waste time when it was warmer practicing my casting, looking for some good walls, eliminating spots, ect,ect...Then when the water temps get ready for the good fishing I will have more quailty time to fish rather going at it rusty. We all can read, we know the right time, the right temp. But it's called fishin.....

No reason to get your panties all bunched up. I was just having conversation and If you will read a post two or three up from this one you'll see I wanted to make it clear I wasn't trying to put it down. I don't give a rat's ass how you fish, I was just giving some food for thought.
Some day I'm gonna corner ole Elwood to go out with me and try to get me hooked on it. I came a whisker from buying a new rod last year. I also caught a few smallmouth on Cumberalnd last year doing it on my own with a 7 foot rod. Hard to throw that 12 to 14 foot leader with that 7 foot rod, I about stuck myself a few times.
If I offended anybody, sorry, it wasn't meant that way, I forget about the little ''Click's'' on this site sometimes and threads I'm not suppose to comment on, lol.
Re: A Little F-n-F on the Creek
Mark,
I for one didn't think you were putting FnF down - just trying to offer advice - which I need plenty of!
I fished FnF in early November last year to practice on Herrington of all places and caught LM. Water temp was 65 degrees. Surely, it will at least work a little on C-Land which is clearer lake with a smallmouth population.
I actually prefer catching fish on the bobber to other ways because it's so much fun.
