Re: Ghosts
A buddy I used to run around with years ago, (back when they were wanting to put a 100' statue of Jesus) his grandfather purchased the prop at Waverly. We spent lots of time up there goofing around and doing teenage things. Let me tell you that if anyone is a non believer, go up there and run around after dark.
Man I believe it. I'm not 100% sure if I would like to go there after dark.

Re: Ghosts
The End of Time thread got me to thinking about something else I like to ponder on a cold winter day: Ghosts or more to the point why don't ghosts appear/visit modern man as much as they did in "olden times".
According to historical accounts, Ghosts and other spirits frequently visited all sorts of people AND PEOPLE BELIEVED IN AND EXPECTED TO SEE GHOSTS. However, today with a few exceptions, "modern man" does not believe in ghosts and is not often visited by them.
I believe that, with rare exceptions, ghosts will only appear to people that believe in them. And since I do believe in ghosts, spirits and other things that go bump in the night, I do not believe that ALL OF THEM are just a product of our imaginations.
Grumpy
I've never seen a ghost, and don't believe in them, which I guess supports your statement. That said, I do agree with you when you say that "I do not believe that ALL OF THEM are just a product of our imaginations." In fact I'd take it one step further and say that I believe strongly that quite a lot of them are NOT products of anybody's imagination, but rather, products of phenomena that we don't yet understand, and perhaps never will during our lives on Earth.
I also reject the term "supernatural." Nothing supernatural can possibly exist. If ghosts DO exist, then they are perfectly "natural."

Re: Ghosts
Myself I dont beleive in ghosts as defined as tortured souls that wander around looking for something and are unable to go to the next life. Thats how believers usually describe them as lost souls unable to transfer over to the great beyond. I cant accept that as God wouldnt let them just wander around. He decides where they go and makes sure they get there. However, I do believe in spirits like angels and evil spirits like the devil. I dont see them but the bible mentions them so I believe in them. I know there are people who swear they have seen a ghost so I dont know what to make of that. I have watched that show Ghosthunters mostly the end of it while waiting for another show to come on and for the most part they dont find anything either just some sounds and that could be manufactured for the purpose of the show.

Re: Ghosts
I have told this story since it happened and don't know if anyone has ever took it serious other than the people involved. But here goes.....I'm 30 now, this probably happened when I was around 12 or 13. We used to live in Shively off Crums Ln., my house backed up to Farnsley golf course, for anybody who is familiar with the area. I was in the back yard with the two neighbor kids. We were playing hide and seek, right as the sun was dropping. It was still light outside, but 10 or 15 minutes before dark, you know, like when your on the water and it seems like about the time every fish in the lake starts breaking the surface. Anyway, we had been playing this game for an hour or so, and most of the spots to hide had been already used. There was a flood ditch that seperated my back yard from the 2nd hole on the golf course. While the little girl was leaning against a tree on my back deck covering her eyes and counting, me and another boy scrambled around the back yard looking for a good spot to hide. She had about reached 20 when we both jumped in the ditch. As we leaned up against the ditch, with our heads poking out, just enough to watch her look all around the back yard for us, we started to laugh because she could not find us, and blew our cover. Once she noticed our heads poking up from the ditch, she started to run straight towards us, when all of a sudden she stopped 20 or 30 feet from us, started screaming like she was on fire, and ran out of my back yard as fast as she could. About that time, me and the other boy looked to our right, and as clear as day, make no mistakes about it. There was a large figure shaped like a man in a long robe or sheet like outfit, maybe 6 or 7' tall floating 3' off the ground. Moaning, and heading straight towards us, I didn't waiste a lot of time, getting to know the guy, so as far as what it looked like, its a little unclear. But I do remember it had a tall top hat, like Frosty the snowman. We both bolted for the house, and never looked back. It took months for me to go in the back yard. This is the honest truth, with no exageration. We were not high, and yes.....I'am mentally stable. Something I can remeber like yesterday, and will never forget. I get chills on the back of my neck just thinking about it now.

Re: Ghosts
I definitely believe in ghosts, however I am a skeptic by nature (is probably why I've never seen one). I believe it takes a certain type of person to experience the supernatural. My wife, for example, is very imaginative and very right brained. She has all kinds of ghost stories that she claims to have happened to her throughout her life. I, on the other hand, am very left brained, and I haven't witnessed anything supernatural. That doesn't mean that something supernatural hasn't occurred in my presence, it's just that I wasn't either paying attention, or I rationalized it somehow. I'm one of those people that doesn't get scare for nothing, and have always desired to see a ghost. I think those type of people don't ever get what they wish for. I would love to spend a night at the Waverly Place, maybe I would get what I've always wished for.....then again, maybe I shouldn't go! :D lol.
I love to watch the Ghost Adventurers on the Travel Channel, check it out if you haven't already. None of that psychic crap on there, and they try to debunk stuff that they feel wasn't really supernatural. They also get into some awesome locations!
Well the Alien stuff is real....we had a few on here but they left...with help.:p
Mister Spock, I've tested the sensors, there’s nothing wrong with the bloody thing! The sensors never lie. The Klingons are still here, we just can't see them because of their cloaking devices.

Re: Ghosts
I had a friend named Lori who was born with a heart defect and had numerous surgeries. Her heart was so weak she could only whisper. That was sweetest and most beautiful young lady I have ever seen. She told me that she wanted to be able to sing like the people in the choir but couldn't even speak a word aloud. I just wrapped my arms around her and she started crying. I prayed for her and asked God to heal her and let me hear her speak aloud and "sing like an angel."
About two weeks later one Sunday morning we went to church and, before the service, Lori was sitting on the seat in front of her mother, looking back talking with her and a friend. My husband and I walked in and sat down across the aisle from them. I looked over at Lori and could hear every word she was saying. I almost lost it and grabbed my husband's arms and whispered, "Listen, Lori is talking out loud to Alice. She just told her she graduates college on May 21st." It was in early April when I heard her. My husband said he couldn't hear her that I must have been hearing someone else. I said, "No, Lori graduates May 21st." I sat there and listened to their entire conversation and was so excited I could barely sit still. I called her mother and asked if Lori was able to speak aloud and told her what I had heard. She said that she couldn't but what I heard was what Lori had said.
We went home from church, had lunch, and later went to bed for our Sunday afternoon nap. I fell asleep and suddenly my husband had his face right up against mine shaking me to wake up. He whispered, "Be quiet and listen! Someone is in the living room singing." I asked if he had left the stereo or TV on and he assured me that he hadn't. He whispered for me to ease out of bed with him and sneak down the hall to see who was there.
When we got to the living room, a young lady that looked just like Lori, dressed in gleaming white was sitting on the arm of the sofa singing a song I had never heard. It was so beautiful I felt as if my heart was skipping. She was smiling but never spoke a word to us. When her song was finished she just vanished right before our eyes.
About 15 minutes later I received a call saying that Lori had just died of a heart attack. I don't believe she was or is a disembodied spirit or a ghost and I believe that she is in Heaven with the God that she served all her life.
We often hear the low sounds of singing in our house. We have moved several times into several different states but the beautiful music comes along with us and we welcome it. I've had people stop talking and listen to it; one person just leaned back in her chair, closed her eyes and listened as tears ran down her face. She was dying of lung cancer and had come for her final visit.
I cannot explain why we are so blessed to have the music, but I can tell you that when it begins our house seem to overflow with peace and all stress seems to vanish.

Wrong again Grumpy!
I spent one whole winter on Nantucket Island working. It has been about 20 years ago. Anyway, Something about the Islands location. That far off the coast / Humidity ? They still do not know the reason. But Nantucket Island has the most ghost sightings of anywhere in the USA. As we were told when we lived there. There is one Island off of Great Britain somewhere. That has
about the same amount of sightings as Nantucket. And is located about the same distance off of that coast. Cannot be a coincidence or that many people making that stuff up. On two different Islands, That just happen to be almost alike? I would lean more toward the term of "Spirits" than Ghosts.
I have never seen one materialize but I have sure as heck felt there strong presence a few times. With some unexplainable things happening at the same time. So I for one believe that the spirit world is real.
