Re: Things are about go get ugly
I don't really care about the posts being moved or who is a sponsor, etc. But I am curious about this lawsuit.
Why in the world would he sue the KDFWR? And why is it a civil suit? Basically that means he's suing them for personal damages.
We all know there is a very tight budget for all things government - including the KDFWR. Having to pay legal fees to defend themself in court isn't going to help put with the management of our fish and wildlife.
I hope he has a real good, valid reason for doing this.
I listen to his show often and I've always has the opinion that he was a a bit of a loose cannon.
Re: Things are about go get ugly
They both have been slinging mud back and forth maybe it got out of hand I don't know. I'm very curious to and still don't understand why the link was removed.
BTW it is still up on a thread below, called Let the games begin. Somebody that understands legal Mumbo Jumbo look at that thing and tell us what's going on?? I know I can't make heads nor tales from it.
Re: Things are about go get ugly
I moved the thread here....whatever this legal battle is about (I don't have a clue at this point and from what I have read here so far, neither does anyone else here). I moved the thread here because I saw nothing in the thread that has to do with a fishing discussion...and yes before you bring it up, I do at times leave posts up on the fishing discussion boards that are asking for prayers etc for someone etc...that has nothing to do with a fishing discussion...but then again that is my perogative as a moderator.
When and if this lawsuit exhibits something that would be of value to anglers...I will consider letting it be on the fishing discussion boards..until then, this discussion will be here on the Off Topics board where folks can argue all day long civil matters, politics, religions and all the other stuff that in my opinion has nothing to do with fishing.
Note: It is a violation of the rules for the discussion boards to complain about the administration of this site on the boards...the rules state that if you have a problem with the rules then you are to email Peter with your complaints. I do not play favorites ie...reference to KDFW being given special treatment here...I will at any time I deem a post or thread to violate the rules delete or move it as I deem necessary to comply with the rules of the site.
Any complaints are to be sent to Peter via email...not posted on the discussion boards....end of conversation.
Re: Things are about go get ugly
There were no complaints, just a question that was asked and it has been answered.

Agreed. I actually lost the link on this thread completely that is why I said anything. Then I found it down on the other thread about the same thing. Weird, but I'm still not showing the link on this thread right now. Maybe I have some of those ghosts Grumpy has been talking about. I thought the link had been removed, It's gone from mine, insert Twilight Zone music here.

Strader et al v. Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources et al
Plaintiff: James N. Strader
Defendant: Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, Jonathan W. Gassett and John Does 1-10
Case Number: 3:2009cv00062
Filed: December 14, 2009
Court: Kentucky Eastern District Court
Office: Frankfort Office [ Court Info ]
County: Jefferson
Presiding Judge: Judge Danny C. Reeves
Nature of Suit: Civil Rights - Other Civil Rights
Cause: 42:1983 Civil Rights Act
Jurisdiction: Federal Question
Jury Demanded By: Plaintiff
"After reading the suit, it appears that Jim is alleging that the KDFWR stopped having their employees be guests on his show, stopped sending a cadre of conservation officers to his show to provide security and generally stopped giving him freebies after he repeatedly kicked them in the teeth on his show. His complaint alleges that the KDFWR has abridged his right to free speech by not smooching his keister after he kicked theirs.
His complaint is 27 pages long, a whole lot of which describes what a great guy and a defender of the sportsmen and women of Kentucky he has been. If that's the case, people like a number of commission members, Ben Hall and a whole lot more should be honored in the manner that Jim honors himself. Unfortunately, many of those folks who have toiled in the vineyard have been kicked in the teeth from 6-8 every Sunday instead of being honored.
I am by no means the judge or jury, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. From my first reading of the suit, he's mad because he is getting the cold shoulder from the KDFWR. He says he's getting that cold shoulder because he held their feet to the fire over issues that he believes they have mis-handled.
Now I ask you...if you kick anyone in the teeth long enough, they probably won't want to do you any favors. Those of you who are married probably understand getting the cold shoulder from a spouse that you've given a hard time. The situations are parallel.
We'll see how it goes. I'm given to understand that there will be no Jim Strader Expo in 2010. Having stopped going there in 2004, I've got no first hand knowledge of the quality of his Expo, but judging from some of the comments posted here characterizing it as a flea market (and some a lot worse), I'm guessing that the demise of his Expo is not the result of some unholy conspiracy by the KDFWR but his bad judgment about what makes a successful show. Blaming someone who he kicked in the teeth for his problems when those problems can be ascribed to someone else could be construed as being a whiner.
In any event, the issue is now before the bar. We'll see how the justice system treats it. "

Re: Things are about go get ugly
My own opinion on the Jim Strader show is that it was in fact not much more than a flea market....Just my own personal opinion.

I read the complaint........if 1/2 of it is correct......the KDFWR are flat out WRONG, and probably going to be paying some smack.......
Also, it looks like if KDFWR loses.........some people, including the commissioner needs to LOSE their job......
The entire complaint is here:

Re: Things are about go get ugly
Wow that sounds very crooked. I didn't realize what this was all about till I read the complaint. The commish looks like he is in hot water here. If this stuff can be proven then he should be fired....thats some criminal stuff going on there.
Re: Things are about go get ugly
I read the complaint and I agree that what the KDFWR was allegedly doing does sound crooked.
But...if the KDFWR is doing something illegal, then CRIMINAL charges should be brought against them.
Strader's essentially filing a CIVIL suit because they stopped supporting his expo and started a competing radio show. I don't think that's grounds for a civil suit and will just waste tax dollars.
