favorite KY lake ledge baits

I live on the lake and struggled for years trying to learn the ins and outs of ledge fishing here, I finally had enough and went out with Dave Stewart and I have never looked back. I knew some of what he was teaching me but I never knew how to put it all together, you can be told a dozen times "how to" but until I was shown the "correct" way of doing it by Capt. Dave you feel aimless. I now know the where and when's, I have a better understanding of baits and movements of bass, C-rig and jig techniques, all this combined with a little added confidence makes a world of difference. I know this sounds like a plug for Dave (which it is really I guess) and since I have recommended dozen of guys to book a trip and "fill in their gaps" none of which have came back and said it was a waste of their time they all have been thoroughly impressed.

Baits, If you watched the FLW when Williamson won he touted that his co-angler Brandon Hunter (who won the co-angler side) had used a Zoom ole monster in plum and wore him out, also Russ Lane said he used a 10" worm in plum. KVD, and Skeet used a 12" power worm in plum (yes - 12"), I found the Xcite Maximus was awesome when rigged with their shakey head style hook on the ledges. Read Daves report from last year and you'll see the DT20M in green shad and Grey Shiner was awesome as well.

Let the current dictate size, the weather/water color dictate color. Most of all be a student of the game and have fun.

Thanks for the kind words. There isn't much I can think of that I have not thrown on a ledge including topwaters. Bottom line, there is nothing you can throw at a bank or point that you can't throw on a ledge....the key is throwing on the right ledges and figuring out what they want and how they want it just like throwing on a bank or point (the right bank or point...lol). Anyone that wants to learn ledge fishing, I would be happy to teach you. I am sure you will have a lot of fun on the ledges this year Kevin.....remember what I taught you and then experiment around with those lures and techniques you are thinking about and those these guys are giving you advice on.

Dave - I sure can't wait to get out there and give it a go this late spring/summer. With all of the distraction I had last year on the personal front I didn't get a chance to get back out on the ledges after we went out so I still haven't "driven that shiny new car yet". Seeing that show Saturday sure stirred me up and put me back in the driver's seat. Thanks for your words of encouragment.

Come on mother nature! Give us a break and throw us some sunshine and warm temperatures for a change so we can get out of the cabin and start chasing them!!

also forgot to mention that the angle in which you attack the ledge is critical. casts at one angle to the structure may go untouched but just changing the angle a few degrees can make a big difference.
