I remember the first time I tried to use my first baitcaster, it took some time...It was a red Abu 5000...still have it. We would fill a reg. bucket full of water.....and we would get in the back in the bed of my freind Ronald's dad's old chevy pick-up truck...and we would pratice for hours every day...we would make a competition out of it... on who can land that old "hellbender" in the bucket at various locations. We would play "HORSE"...like the B-ball shooting game. My life as a kid...out in the counrty...with farm ponds...creeks all around, kids my own age...it was the best any could ask for. I had plenty of practice on those farm ponds.

I use spinning reels with the handle on the left side. Due to having problems with tennis elbow from holding the rod in my left hand when using bait casters I bought a left hand reel thinking I could adapr because I used a spinning reel. I can assure you it is very awkward with the bait caster.

Here's a digital controlled reel. You just need to get you 4 or 5 of these and you'll be set*.

Having someone there in person to help you would be an advantage. You might check with a local tackle shop and see if anyone there would help you out with some instruction. It doesn't mention in your profile on here where you live but i would say someone here on the board that lives close to you might help you out as well. I live in paris, ky. If you are close let me know.
Re: HELP cant get the hang of casting a BASS baitcaster!
Someone already said it but it might have gotten overlooked. Turn the reel sideways. Turning the reel so the spool is perpendicular to the water as opposed to parrallel helps a bunch.
Having the brake set correctly helps to. Having the right rod (specifically the speed of the tip) helps. Practice helps the most.
