If I were you I'd buy a new one if I could. If you manage to dry it out it'll probably happen again.

It set out in the rain, not completly submerged. Mine stays on the boat which more often than not sits outside in the weather. Screen fogs a bit but drys out on its own. Has not affected function whatsoever. No need in buying a new one.
i never heard of the dry rice thing. it would alot cheaper than charcoal. im going to try that next time insead of the charcoal. has anyone ever put it in the boat lockers when storing away for the winter? if the rice swells up will it smell or anything if left along time?
I would only use rice once to dry it out. I wouldn't use it in a rod locker or tackle locker to absorb moisture as as you stated it might swell and get to stanking/creating food for mold and what-not. For that application I would use the large silica gel packs. You can get the kind that are "rechargeable" in your oven on low temps.
Second on the rice. It also works if you drop your phone in the lake. I have first hand experience with that.
Wife dropped hers in the john. That is how I found out about the rice trick.
I agree, as long as the wet screen did not bother me while I was fishing and I felt I could trust it's accuracy after being wet inside I wouldn't buy a new one either.
