Welcome to the board. I struggled this weekend. Caught a 4 lbs smallie and one other keeper on saturday. Lots of little fish but that is not what I am after. I want the big girls! I fish North Barkley ALOT and didn't catch a fish Sunday morning. Should be about right this weekend if they don't drop the bottom out of the lake. I think I will head south next trip. You would have won the tourney out of Kuttawa.
I spoke with a well known crappie guide and his boat caught 3 short crappie on saturday. That was it!!
me and my brother Alot out of kuttawa area. We do go to south barkley some too. If you know where the ramp is that you have to pay at, well when you exit that ramp and go right my uncle owns the 1st 2 houses on the right. He is friends with a retired guide from there and usually gives us the scoop before we go out. We got some really good ledges we have found in that area and some that he has told us about. Its not south Ky by far but we normally catch a pretty good bag.
A BIG THANKS TO ALL WHO RESPONDED. Your information is much appreciated. Well, now for the BAD NEWS.
Finally got to Barkley on Tuesday night (staying at Barkley Lodge). Put the boat in the water Wednesday morning at first light, then found I was having problems with the starter?/battery? for the main engine....Long story, short story...pulled boat back out and put charger on battery. Back on the lake around 11:00.
Could not even get a SNIFF. Fished Little River and point/bays south to the bridge , then up to Energy Lake. Nothing! Threw Jigs, swim bait, rattle trap, jerk bait, etc. Just not my day. Called it quits around 5:00 pm. Time for a cocktail and develop a plan for tomorrow!!
try a lucky craft pointer 100 series in amereican shad. That should help. dont hesitate to try back in the bays with spinnerbaits and flippin jigs. This warm spell should get back there.
Guess that's why it's called FISHIN! Went out again Thursday from first light till noon.....same song...second verse.
Tried to find a pattern...but nothing...fished back of coves in 2-5 foot of water in bushes.(61 DEG WATER)_ ......fished main lake channel.......creek channelsleading into and in Little River (57 deg water). ((found the fish and tons of bait fish in creek channels, but they GOT LOCKJAW)) threw everything at them EXCEPT A BRICK . Thinking maybe I should have stayed home and fished Dale Hollow or Lake Cumberland???
Called it quits at noon Thursday, but I'll be back to West Ky in a few weeks. Expect things will improve once I'm gone!!!!;) But,I'll be back toward the end of April....Ye..Haw :p:p.
But, need to get back and meet up with the wife. It's our 47th ANEVERSITY (and I need to collect some stamps, Hee...He, just kidding). Don't know how we made it this long, but looking forward to many more. She's been a real keeper.
Sorry you didn't have much luck, but I'll bet you had a lot better time on the water than I did in the office! Congrats on your anniversary!
Michael
yep 47 is almost forever, but I know some guys who think 2 years is forever
