We have been talking about the 2 mile stretch of the Dix river below Herrington dam. Never bass fished it but I am sure there would be some good bass fishing at times most likely spring fishing would be good. They stock trout in the upper mile or so to the dam where the cool water comes from the dam release...

[QUOTE=kc;420785]Sure did. That is an interesting place to say the least. As I was scouting out this possible trip my wife and I had gone to Shaker village last year and went down to the riverboat and I noted that you could launch a canoe there. But they close at 5 pm and we went past there on the way to highbridge Monday and it wasn't open so I don't think that is a very good option at all. We didn't get back to highbridge until about 6 so that would have been fun to find a locked gate. It was a little interesting finding the highbridge ramp but that is the way to go in that part of the river...

You have to put in on the Jessamine County side. Lock 7 Rd. has a ramp. Or put in @ Camp Nelson in Garrad County.
The Camp Nelson ramp is right under the US27 bridge. It will cost you $5 to launch. If you go toward Lock 8 be sure to keep to left because as I understant it, there is a sunk dock from the flood on the right just up from the ramp that a number of boats have hit and caused some serious damage. You might ask the guy in the bait shop at the ramp about the exact location. The river is in good shape right now, but the fishing is slow with this hot weather. Be careful when the river is low because some of the creek bars come way out in the river this time of year. If you night fish, you have to be aware of the fog. It gets thick down there at night.
