I like the metal detector idea. Seems like a cheap, effective way to prevent that particular method of cheating. Personally, I don't put a whole lot of stock in polygraphs.
It IS theft by deception, and here in Kentucky, if it's over $300, it's a felony. I've never fished in a tournament, but I don't understand why anybody wouldn't press charges if they caught someone stealing that much money. If you don't think you can prove it, OK, but in the tourney where the guy was putting weights down the throats of his fish, he was caught absolutely red-handed, and admitted what he did. Any organization that doesn't press charges under those circumstances loses credibility, at least in my eyes. I have to wonder how much money the guy already won by cheating, and got away with it?

There's an app for that :p
Lie detectors if accurate would be acceptable. However if a court of law won't accept it as evidnce of guilt when conducted in a controlled area/situation such as an office, why would anyone think that conducting them at a ramp in front of 100 or so competitors and spectators make the test more reliable ? Your going to disqualify more good honest people than bad guys.
How about this pre statement for setting someone at ease before starting the lie detector test:
I don't want you to be nervous becuse if you pass you win this new Ranger but if you fail you will be banned for life"
The lie detector test, wether accurate or not, is the greatest deterent.
There's very few people that will bet their carreer that they can pass
that thing, the risk is just to great.
As far as making an innocent one look guilty, not likely.
Out of all the thousands of tournaments that use them, how
many times have you heard of someone not passing?
I'm sure there's some, but I haven't seen any yet.
Maybe everyone passes? Doesn't matter, it's a great deterent
either way. At least the best so far.
