I agree! Although, I always feel I have accomplished more if I catch fish...say on Monroe...instead of in a smaller body of water. Both are fun though!
To me here is my ettiquette opinion
1) The lake is public property, which means anyone has a "right" to fish in front of, behind, or next to me. Even if you think the person is an ass, they are not doing anything wrong.
2) In conjunction to #1, you do not own the fish, there is no fish "you were suppose to catch" that the other guy took from you.
3) You can not claim the entire 360 degree zone around your boat. Only the area you are currently casting into should be off limits to other anglers.
4) Do not run your boat over a casting path.
5) You have no right to tell someone how loud or quiet to be.
6) If at any time you have a problem with the situation, you move.
7) Dont keep fish in a live well unless
a) Youre in a tourney
b) Testing the live well system
c) Eating the fish

Thats why its called ediquette. No there are no written rules, and nobody owns the public waters we fish. Its common sense, and more than that common courtesy, that people need to learn. People are only worried about themselves and their own agendas, and could care less about someone else on the lake fishing with partents or kids. Fishing is relaxing and a past time we all have had passed to us, and will pass down to someone else. It should not have to be spent frustrated by people who show no repect to other boats. RESPECT, is what it all boils down to. If someone is on my favorite brushpile, I move on, not because I have to, but because I'm there to enjoy myself, and respect other people who share the love for the sport as I do.

i wasnt implying that those were written rules.. i started by saying that was my opinion
let me give you a good example.
we are off shore fishing and we hit fish feeding so we are literally pulling bass after bass. another boat hits them as well... now they are casting one direction and we are casting another... we literally passed within 10 feet of each other. both said our hellos, and kept going.

This to me is fine. You were casting in opposite directions.
It's the schmucks that see you ripping bass into the boat and decide they need to "angle" their way into that spot so they can cast in the same direction, same location, and even same piece of cover/structure. Guess I need to invest in some 1oz lead :p
This is a topic of conversation that will continue till the end of time...lol. It boils down to respect for your fellow fishermen. Just as the saying tells us...do unto others as you would have done unto yourself. Would you like a fellow fisherman to cut you off your bank? Would you like a fellow fisherman to come right at you on plane, then slam off and drop their trolling motor, then cast right where you are casting? If you wouldn't like anyone else to do these things to you.......then don't do it to others. Simple.

Justin were you fishing in the channel if you were you are going to get big boats all day long because this is where the have to operate their boats. I fish the main and secondary channel until the boat traffic picks up them I move because I understand this is their highway.
I crossed the canal Labor Day and there was an idiot fishing with a pontoon right in the middle of the canal with four people with lines everywhere. This is not the time to fish the canal.
I'm not accusing you of doing this but if we are talking etiquette and you are fishing in the channel and a lot of folks do then this is like playing on the highway.
I've had problems mainly with the bass fisherman, but I believe it's because of their manner of fishing that leads to the problems. Bass fisherman have to work the banks and keep moving, but I've literally had them cut between the bank and my boat when there was only 20 yards or less of water. I've had bass fisherman come up and throw their lures within fifteen feet of my corks!!
Now as far as bass fisherman having problems with each other, GOOD. The majority of bass fisherman on a lake have attitude problems and think they have rights to the whole lake. They're the rudest bunch of fisherman I've ever seen, of course riding around in a 70 thousand dollar truck and trailer rig gets to their heads, it's only human nature.
True blue panfisherman KNOW the **** rules and etiquette, it's the bassin crowd that have major issues.
