I took over as head coach for this team basically at the end of last season (season starts with the new school year in the fall). My officers, assistant coaches and I have spent a lot of the summer getting things more organized for the team. Sponsors, a real Constitution with by-laws, recruiting etc...
I'm kind of curious to know what efforts are being made towards recruiting...how do you all recruit for the fishing team? It's not like ball sports where college recruiters sometimes start watching a kid in Junior High...I'm just kind of curious how your recruiting efforts work...I understand if you can't tell me as that may be part of a coaches "secret" to success. I would think that maybe you all would set up a booth at the state fair, perhaps at some of the various boat shows in the area, etc...
Im curious about the recruiting as well. I mean it isnt like you can offer scholarships... So do you just focus on recruiting from just those who are already students at UK? or do you try to recruit highschool seniors?
I would think a booth at the Louisville Boat/RV show would be better than the state fair...and maybe the smaller local gun shows all over the state... put together a mobile booth out of the back of a mini van and hit up all the BFL, USA Bassin, etc...
I talked to Jordan this morning and one of the boats he had for an observer had to back out due to a death in the family. I have been making some calls trying to find UK another boat but I have had no luck.
I am sure they would greatly appericate it if somebody could step up and help the team. The tournament is Sunday 9-19 out of the Lone Valley ramp at Green River Lake. I will be keeping a close eye on the boards to see if we have a response. I know this is last minute but a situation has arose that is beyond thier control.

I am not sure what was done in the past but this past spring, when I agreed to be the coach, I got on fishing sites like this one and announced we were looking for new folks, also announced that in my weekly fishing report which by the way reaches more people in one week than if we worked boat shows all winter...also mentioned to my clients. Most of the new recruits we had join this year were through this kind of networking. Two of my assistant coaches are good tournament anglers and they used their network also. We had 8 members last season, this season we are up to 20.
I have an angler fishing a qualifier at Green River Lake in September for Eastern KY. Just needing some lake info and some details on lures to use. Thanks,
