Some have suggested military service, and that idea sounds good, but it comes with the caveat that if it's the only option, then we're going to end up with people in the military who really don't want to be there, and probably aren't going to be willing to risk their lives when it comes down to it. I don't know what the answer is, but I think there has to be some kind of extra service to the community, some way for them to earn the privilege of being naturalized. And I think most who want to stay will gladly do it. Those that aren't willing, well, we don't have much choice but to deport them.[/QUOTE]
Immigration reform is simple, if you think it through. First secure the border. Repeal the 14th amendment to discourage a surge in anchor babies. Then make it illegal to rent to , hire, or give other than emergency medical attention to illegal illegal immigrants. Schools will require proof of citizenship before enrollment. Social Security will purge their records of all illegal immigrants currently collecting benefits. Stiff penalties would be put in place to punish all violators. These actions alone will persuade most illegals to self deport. The majority that will remain would probably be undesirables, such as criminals and gang members which wouldn't follow the laws anyhow. However, illegal aliens that have become productive illegal citizens would also remain. These individuals that have proven themselves as contributing to our society would be placed in a category that they would not have to leave but would have to take the normal channels for citizenship. They would follow behind the current list of people that have applied the legal way and are waiting. However they would be required to pay taxes and not be given the privilege to vote until their applications were approved.
The United States should not be blackmailed with the the threat of civil unrest from a bunch of people who shouldn't be here in the first place!
