Yeah, you can say all you want but i have seen enough to know that spankin has set more people right than turned em bad. Most of the losers in todays world are the result of a parent who just didnt discipline their children at all. "Oh little johnny... i just dont know what to do with him, he talks back to me and gets in fights and does drugs..." well if you made him fear your hand on his ass a little more he may think twice about being a frickin retard...

Don't get me wrong, I am not against discipline - but if spanking is your only form a discipline, then that is when issues arise. I do think possitive reinforcement has a far greater value than a consequence type discipline (not just speaking in terms of spanking) - but I think both have a place in a raising well rounded children.

definitely. I wasn't trying to say discipline shouldn't be used, just that we tend to use it way too much, at least from my experiences.

No my dear friend I was not offended infact I take it as a great compliment. Its great when we find others who we think the same as we do. We would have tons to discuss. Heck no I didnt take it as fresh as all. Remember I worked in a prison for 7 years with mostly men and I have heard everything. You were very nice and it made me smile when you said it. I was talking more in terms of the views on islam, than the views on spanking. I Don't totally agree with spanking, but I am not one to say you should never spank your child. I got them on occassion (I needed more than I got), and I turned out OK. But I do think there are better options, and there is plenty of data backing that up. I didn't really contradict myself - you can have consequence punishments that do not involve physical contact. However, being totally honest with myself, I seriously doubt I will make it through parenthood of twins without ever giving one of them a swat on the butt.

Now I understand why you made that absurd remark about spanking a child; someone spanked you and lowered your IQ. According to you, children who were spanked have lower IQs. That's a lot of bull; if it were true almost every person on this board would be retarded. I was spanked when I was growing up and it never gave me a headache nor a low IQ. In fact, my IQ is above normal/average. I spanked my 14 year-old's butt and it must have also thrown her bubble off center. Her IQ tested in the genius category, she is in a special school of math and sciences for gifted students and is working on her second year of college.

The only people who claim to have lower IQs and brain damage, caused from spankings, are criminals who are facing long stretches in prison or the death sentence. Isn't that ironic?
