Re: Threats and protection for Elected officials
I'll know more after it's over.
And probably won't be able to talk about it :)
"Is there ANY assigned protection for elected officials."
In Washington DC, yes. But it only follows you home if you're one of the top guns, House Speaker, Senate Majority Leader, etc. A lot of them like it that way, and I think Rep. Giffords had said she did, too. I remember seeing where the guy from Utah (can't find the link right now) had said he thought the Federal Marshals ought to protect congresspeople when they're in their home districts (they protect federal judges). The guy also mentioned that he'd personally had a CCDW for a long time.
Re: Threats and protection for Elected officials
Reagun had protection, and he still got shot.
Kennedy had protection, and he still got shot.
Same goes for Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, William McKinley.
I think Presidents deserve protection as they are our leader.
Senators and Congressmen are not decision-makers, and are not elected leaders. They are representatives only. So I'd say spare the change.
All professions have their own risks. If being in the public eye seems too risky, either hire your own help or consider a change of jobs.
If we did provide protection for US level representatives, why not state, and county reps too? Are they less valuable to us?
