Re: One and DOnes
Good points guys, but keep in mind I said only the ones with big NBA contracts, nothing else. How about they pay it back to a kid who can't afford school, that would be cool. I do hear what you are saying though and can really see it both ways. Yes the schools do make some cabbage off of the games, no doubt.

[QUOTE=Catfish Bob;440372]^Very well said.
UK b-ball lost me as a fan after they fired Tubby.
A man with principal integrity and high values is how I saw Tubby. Yet our ignorant fans ran him off because he didn't win every year. I guess they forget that b-ball is a childs game, and the game is only half of it. The most important thing is these kids grow up and become men, learning from a guy like Tubby about life and what it is to be a man would most certainly help any young fella.
The first person that I have seen that says the same thing that I been saying for years. You Da Man Catfish Bob. Tubby Smith did have integrity, honesty and respect for the University, his players and the game. You can't say the same for the 2 coaches since. I am still a UK Fan but no where near what I used to be. I USED to not miss a game and made sure when they were playing at all times. Now I don't even have a schedule. I will still root for them but as far as purchasing UK Memorabilia (sp), that stopped after Tubby left. I have tons of UK Stuff but it is all Tubby Smith and earlier including Bobble Head dolls, the UK annual Yearbooks and such. People can say what they want about Tubby but as PARENTS, you are not going to say you would rather your 18 yr old kid to go off to college and be Coached, Tutored and taught lessons that they will use all their life by Callipari or Gillespie. If you do then all you have to look at is Liggins refusing to go into the game a couple of years ago in Vegas and the way Cousins acted last year. If that was on Tubby's team, Liggins would still be walking back from Vegas and Cousins would have been shining some pine until he learned to grow up a bit. I think it was Gerald Fitch, one of the best players on the team at the time, that Tubby sat down during a SEC tourney game several years ago for either missing class or some sort of infraction. Absolutely no way Billy G or Johnny C would do that.
Take your pick boys, teams that stay together long enough for us to remember their names, with a coach that has integrity, honesty and a stand up guy that puts a team on the floor each year that competes for the SEC plus has legitimate shots at getting to the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 every year. Tubby Smith averaged 26.3 wins per season, 5 SEC titles, 5 SEC tourney titles, 6 appearances in the Sweet 16, and oh by the way 1 NCAA Title (with a team in 1998 that had 1/3 the talent last years team had) all in 10 years with a .760 winning percentage, which was better than Joe B. Hall's winning percentage by the way and just slightly lower than Rick Pitino's winning percentage.
or 4 or 5 one and doner's with 8 or 9 nobody or role players that have low to mid major talent but the list of one and doners that came scared off other talent, coached by someone whose integrity has been questioned on more than one occasion that still only puts a team on the floor who has legitimate shots at getting to the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 because the talent keeps changing yearly. Seems to me the end result is the same in both cases and I will take option #1.
I am off my soapbox now and again, Catfish Bob, good to see a man with some common sense and integrity. Now less go Smallmouth fishing because I could not tell you what a Catfish looks like if it was in a police lineup and surely could not catch one if my life depended on it.
