Just another reason Bob Knight is a tool!

Bob Knight Theater never gets old – for a guy that drilled discipline into his players he could never practice what he preached!

But a total tool – I DON”T THINK SO!

Bob Knight gets up every morning and decides which one of THREE National Championship rings he’s going to wear that day. That puts him in pretty rare company, among the all time coaching greats. Wooden has 10, Rupp & Kzryzewski (a former Knight Assistant!) 4 each, and then comes Knight with 3, then comes a large group of legendary coaches with 2 championships each. He has won 902 games – that alone makes him a legend, even if the 902 wins is exceeded by Kzryzewski (did I mention he is a former Knight Assistant!).
An unbeaten season (32-0 in 1976), and he came very close to another unbeaten season the year before (31-1 in 1975). Don’t you think that every team Indiana beat in a 31-1 year in 1975 gave IU a their best game the very next year that they went undefeated?

When he was coaching Indiana there was always a large group of his former players in the stands, they would go to the locker room before and after games, and for every Neil Reed there would be countless other names, like Buckner, May, Benson, Thomas, Cheaney, & others that supported Coach Knight. The reporters never told about, and, Knight did not try to publicize the good things he did for the University, players and fans, raising millions of dollars for the library, countless fund raising events, hospital visits, Landon Turner, etc. But the negative, they made sure to show all of that, and admit it was easy copy for the reporters business, sold a lot of papers, got lots of exposure. Some of what he did was embrassing.
But consider three NCAA championships, the total number of games won, impact on the game, name engraved on a plaque in Springfield, 6 times named Big Ten Coach of the Year . . . Legend.

Tough to play for and against? Undoubtedly.
Controversial, outspoken and opinionated? Yes.
Pain in the butt bully? YES.
Embarrassed IU and fans by his behavior at times? YES!

Not a tool!

The man in the red sweater will allways be my favorite IU Coach. If Tom Crean achieves half of the record that Robert Montgomery Knight did Harry Potter will be a great coach, I for one hope he does.

Amen and very well said!!!!!!!!!

It all comes down to what your standards are I guess. I have yet to see anyone defend him or make excuses for him except IU fans. I guess they are blinded by those three rings. It reminds me of older UK fans that try and convince me that Rupp wasn't a racist, despite the mountain of evidence to the contrary.

As far as Wikipedia's reliability, it is more accurate than most anything that is put on the baord, particularly the Bob Knight page that has sources cited for the gun incident in Texas.

lroberts do you realize what your logic sounds like? "He is just a poor misunderstood person and really means well. He didn't mean to shoot his buddy, it was his buddy's fault." I guess it was his buddies fault for Knight not purchasing a hunting license.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say what I think Tim_T meant (correct me if I'm wrong) when he called Knight a "tool" was not someone of limited intelligence, as many people use the word, but rather, "a complete a-hole," and I agree 100%. And the response that, "No, he's not, he's a great basketball coach" proves the point about how that's why people give him a pass. But the truth is you can be both, a complete schmuck, AND a great basketball coach, and that's exactly what Knight is, IMO. Tim's absolutely right, no matter what he's accomplished on a basketball court, it doesn't justify his behavior, period. And saying that other coaches are just as bad does nothing to change the truth of that statement.

As to the Kuric call, I'm no hoops expert, but from watching the replay it looks to me like he said something to the kid laying on his back, and that's what got him the technical foul.

At the risk of stating the obvious, anytime you shoot someone else on a bird hunt, you are not shooting where you are supposed to. If the guy was walking too far in front, you don't shoot. Period.

Toad, go on youtube and watch several different clips of it. You can slow it down and pause whatever, he never said a word. Even the ref told Pitino he gave it to him for the menacing stare nothing being said. Menacing stare, that is just funny.

If he was any of the media darlings he could have screamed at the top of his lungs, beat his chest like a silverback Gorilla and it would have been just fine. Poor ole choirboy white kid can't get by with that though, so sorry you sir just got a ''T'', LOL.

Winner winner chicken dinner. I've hunted since being squated and there is and never will be an excuse for shooting someone hunting. Terrible, horrible accident maybe, but excuse, naw I don't think so....................

When it comes to sports and sports figures everyone gets blinded by their love for their team, coach, players or even their memory of them.

I thought Politics talk on here got ridiculous but [B]jeez[/B] the frenzy that can be whipped up around here by a bunch of "no vertical leap having, non jump shot havin, fact spoutin, non dribblin, couldn't run suicide sprint, shoulda woulda coulda, over the hill, ham samich eatin fans" is down right funny.:)

Thanks, I hadn't heard that about the "menacing stare." That IS pretty funny.

Watch it Don, we have two posters that I am aware of that hooped it up in college. I don't care what college they played at, just being good enough to play beyond high school is saying something. Don't get yourself dunked on and taunted!

Btw, if you watch the Kuric dunk, he never said a word and stared at the guy for maybe half a second. Two things to watch after the dunk. #1 If there was going to be a T it should have been on Jennings, he got so emotional you would have thought he dunked it. #2 Look at the Syracuse cheerleaders reaction. I think one of them flat fell in love with KK after that play.

Quick story... I was playing some pick up games at a local court in Lexington many years ago and up walks Cedric Jenkins. Me and my bro in law against him and his nephew (i think) So I'm feeling cocky and say I'll take Cedric...LOL he abused me!! His knees were bad so dunking wasn't an option but man I could barely get around the guy and shoot he was so dang big and looked like he took up the whole court.
A real eye opener for sure but it was a blast and he was a pretty good dude.
