First, I own a Carbonlite and a Veritas although don't flip with either. They're both great rods in the $100 range. Veritas feels like it has a stiffer tip, while the Carbonlite has a slightly softer tip with plenty of backbone. Personally I like the Carbonlite better just because it feels more comfortable.
If you haven't heard of Dobyns before you should check them out. They have several models, the heavier style sticks are Savvy ($170), Champion ($250) and Champ Extreme (I think around $350?). I own a few Savvys and they're by far my favorite rods. The 734 for example (7'3, 4 power[heavy]) is one of my favorite and versatile. It's not a broomstick like other heavy rods I see. There is PLENTY of backbone but they have a slightly softer tip. Within the models there's also plenty of options with size/power. These blow the Veritas and CLite out of the water IMO. Even their 7'6 sticks balance extremely well...it makes a huge difference after fishing all day. Search online and you can find lots of info, I think Cabela's may even be carrying them now.
