Re: Need a new spinning reel
if you just need the reel i think waiting for the sale on the JM bass pro reel is the way to go. the The Pro Q is not a good reel IMO. I have both and the Johnny is way worth it I payed 259 for the combo like 2 years ago.
my wife actually fishes with the pflueger president and loves it. I have used it a few times and it feels really good. Untill the 25th the cabin fever sale at BPS is still going on. they have the carbon light rod with the pflueger president combo for 99-119. im going down tommrow to pick me up two. just the rod it worth it IMO.

Re: Need a new spinning reel
Couple weeks ago I got two Pfleuger Supreme reels for 75 apiece. They were 130 but on sale. I have not used them yet but they feel GREAT on a rod and are super smooth.

Re: Need a new spinning reel
I've used the Cardinals for several years and they seem to keep breaking....they're cheap and feel great but don't seem to hold up....I just purchased a President and am very happy with it so far....It feels better than the Cardinals for just a bit more money
Re: Need a new spinning reel
Shimano to me is by far the best reels out there. I always use the stradic reels and they have been great over the years. I currently have 2 stradic 2500FH reels for sell now and they are in great condition. Asking $125.00 each. Really good reels if you are interested.

Re: Need a new spinning reel
Shimano no doubt. Purchased the Pfluger president and no way does it compare to the Shimano Sonora. Paid more money for the Pfluger and it doesn't compare to the Shimano. Hard to wear the Shimanos out last for years and require little if any maintenance.
Re: Need a new spinning reel
Make sure whatever reel you get that it says Shimano.
Re: Need a new spinning reel
Pflueger. I use the Trions - $40 each - can't beat them at all. If you're feeling a little saucy, then go on up and opt. for the President.
Abu Cardinal is a good reel too, but I've found it easy to bend the spool shaft after a couple of years of use. Great out of the box, but seems to wear out a little easier than the Pflueger.
The rest are overpriced for what you get, but many people drink that marketing Kool-Aid and will swear by them...some will even fight you over it...seriously! Those people crack me up!

Sweet reel I have some that are over 15 years old and they are still smooth and are priced around 70.00 when I first bought them they were about 40.00 and I'm still using them.

The Sahara is a good reel I had one and was so impressed i thought I would step up to the Symetre and was/am very happy.
The thing is that you need to know how much fishing you do in a years time, how much you are going to use the reel. See for 2 years fishing at least 100 days a year and having a shakey head in my hand, the Sahara then my Symetre has been in my hand 60-70% of the time trying to master the technique - so I thoroughly put these reels through the ringer. The Sahara held up good and 2 years on the Symetre it's still like new.... seriously, a little oil and woohoo!!
So determine how much you are actually gonna use the reel and make your decision as to the $50-$60 range or $60-$80 and up. My son has the pflueger and loves it, my brother loves the Cardinal so you have a tough choice here.
