Re: My Yard
Boys my yard looks worse than an old cow pasture. That drought last year put a whoopin on it. I like my grass looking good and this is hurting me boys. I have been slinging seed and fertilizer but dang it, it's looking rough as a cob.
Did that drought hurt any of your yards or plant life, Dang it....
Shew- I hear what your saying! We live in a rural setting so I have adapted a less is more lawn policy - I spent years and hundreds of dollars (...maybe thousands?!!!) on fertilizer - killing dandelions - etc - then cussed like a sailor when I was cutting grass every 3 days in the spring instead of fishing. And then trying to water after the spring rains...so I quit using fertilizer and weed killer - I cut it when it needs it - and I don't sweat the paths the dogs use to spread their fertilizer!

Re: My Yard
Last year was the beginning of a perfect plan.
First last spring the wife says lets call a lawn company and have them spray make the yard look good ,,i says no i would get nuthin done but mowin no fishin. ma says so ? next call trugreen they load the yard up with weed killer kills off all the bad stuff, literally no grass left then comes the drought. That kills off almost all of it. NOW NO grass No mow, fish more. Not my fault trugreen did what she wanted, not my fault no rain..:)

Re: My Yard
Grass is pretty to look at but I HATE MOWING. I would rather take a a$$ kickin than mow. I hate it so bad im thinking about pouring concrete front to back and side to side. Then put down some of the green indoor/outdoor carpet on it. Almost as good looking as grass.......

Re: My Yard
In all reality all that fertilizer and weed killer ain't good for the ecosystem anyway. Some of the long time Elkhorn Creek guys can probably attest to that...Elkhorn is still a good creek but with all the development along it's banks over the past however many years, all that run-off has had an impact on it.
I've recycled everything known to man for as long as I can remember....and now days I'm thinking more "green" than I have in the past, which is one reason I said to heck with the weed and feed this year. I'm just gonna let it go and see what happens.

Re: My Yard
I mowed mine today in the snow. I didn't do a final collection of the leaves from last fall and it was driving me nuts. I don't do anything to my yard but mow it. My time is more important than a great looking yard. Now the dude down the road has an immaculate yard. Every time I drive past I don't think of how great it looks, but I think of the time it takes to make it look that way. Not a blade out of place. Good for him but I'd rather catch smallies than compliments on the yard.....

Re: My Yard
every patch where the grass died some kind of plant with little purple flowers has took over, i am pretty sure this plant is what kevlar is made from based on how my mower with brand new blades cant cut it it just lays it over ....anybody know what this plant is?
Either deadnettle or henbit is my guess as to what you have.
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.
That being the case, with the drought and now heavy rains, I'm following God's desires. My lawn is looking more like a Lake Cumberland shoreline everyday.
I got stuff growing in the yard that must be from the pockets of illegal immigrants. Best I can hope is that it stays green and blends in well enough at a distance.

Re: My Yard
Lawns and golf seem to have something in common.
In golf, you practice a lot to hit the ball farther, but when you do hit a good drive, the reward you get is having to walk farther to get the ball back.
With a Lawn, the more you work to make it grow, the more you work to mow it.
In both cases, work begets work.
Ahhhhhhhh......in both cases, Astro-turf can be a solution:)
Anybody for artifical greens? (Oh crap, does that mean I'd have to run the vacuum on the yard?)
