Pound for pound would be a white bass but most fight isnt the same thing
!!!!!! that would be a pike or hybrid hands down but not pound for pound.

I have to say smallmouth.
Tough one! Hybrid or Smallmouth get my vote, but there is some other tough fighting fish. This argument could go on for days!
Smallie or hybrid for sure.
I thought about this a little more...
Although I love Smallies and spots and they should get their due.. as should Hybrids... I have come up with a new candidate for just flat out mean kick but and probably the best fighter overall...
If a fella mixed a smallmouth, spot, hybrid and bluegill he would end up with
a PEACOCK BASS.... I got a taste of these in Miami last year....
UMMMM>.. AWESOME :D

Never caught a peacock, but they do seem vicious on film!
Hybrids
brown trout try landing a 5 pounder
Had to re-think this one as the ol' German brown defiantly deserves mentioning.
Smallmouth and Hybrid
Never caught a Peacock but I hear they would rival anything mentioned. I think for an initial hit, the hybrid has to get the nod. When you talk about a fish that never gives up all the way into the boat, smallies and gills are pretty close but smallies get the nod because you just never know what they are going to do.
I'll throw my hat in the ring with the trout - they are a blast on light tackle. When it comes to 5 - 10 pound fish it's tough to beat a hybrid.
