Re: Nolin Bass Jumps 16 July
when i lived at red rock we,the neighborhood, wanted to put in a small ramp so we did not have to go to moutiedier, when we inquired about we was told we could apply for the permit, put it in according to corp instructions, they told us there was no such thing as a 'private' ramp per say,if we put it in any one could use it,even though we had to maintain it.was like 98-99 don't know how they do it now.we did not because we didn't want all the traffic and garbage, they since put one back in the creek.
My thoughts exactly never heard of a private ramp on Nolin. Once you get past the red line all is Corps. property. Like Conalaway ramp it's not maintained by the corp. Like Wax and others yet the have a donation box set up on the honor system as the residents there maintain it. Was wondering how it could be private when it's the Govt.s property?

I believe you guys are correct, as far as I know, there are no truly "private" ramps....however, it would probably piss me off a bit if I had a subdivision ramp that I had "paid" for and helped to maintain and outsiders used them all the time. The couple of ones like this that I know in Dog Creek are usually pretty well respected by non-residents. I use one that I'm not a resident of a few times a year because a couple of my fishin partners live in there and I pick them up. Were it not for that, I would probably ask permission from someone before launching...not that I would be "required" to, just seems like the decent thing to do (along with not abusing the privelage if granted. $0.02
This is the Cave Hollow Bay ramp and it is private. that doesn't prevent cheap asses from saving $3 and launching their boat there, and then using MY dock as a courtesy. There's no respect for private property, why not just pay the dam ramp fee?
Looks like I just found a new ramp to launch from on Nolin! YAY!

I agree that no one should be using your dock as a courtesy dock, but I beleive that the corps made it illegal to operate private ramps on Nolin, therefore making all of them public. My neighbors have a house in a gated community in Brier Creek and the corps told them, in order to leave the gate up, that they had to destroy the ramp. So the corps brought down a bulldozer and tore it up.
That is what I have been told anyway.
I just buy one of those $30 access passes, I fish Nolin all the time, and it is way cheaper than paying $3 everytime. BTW, there is no fee at the State Park ramp, the ramp is just too small and they have not fixed the courtesy dock since the flood, took out a small peice of fiberglass on my boat last month.
Re: Nolin Bass Jumps 16 July
Don't think there is such a thing as a private ramp on Nolin. If it's more convenient to launch there I would use it and I don't think it's a matter of being to cheap for most people. Think it may be more of a control issue.
Re: Nolin Bass Jumps 16 July
I usually don't fish from our Lowe boat anymore, I actually haven't had it out once this year. I am always in my kayak, so having as many launch options as possible is a good thing for us kayak guys.
Using a private dock for a courtesy dock is a little rude, but I think the Corp not allowing private ramps on public lakes is a great thing. And really, as long as people aren't damaging your dock or boat, how long are they on your dock really?

Oh I agree with you totally about the dock situation. Those are private docks for sure, yet the ramps? Never heard of them being private on Nolin Lake.
