Re: At least Palin is no longer a racist......
OK I answered my own question. I knew some government employees didn't pay Social Security taxes, but I didn't think they were eligible for benefits. Turns out they can receive benefits, just at a lower rate.

I don't think it's all that many, and I certainly don't think they should have their names published in the newspapers like a bunch of deadbeats just because they're government employees and Congress decided they didn't have to pay Social Security, which MOST government employees do, btw.
Why would anyone not want less government intrusion in their lives and lower taxes thus lower unemployment?
Tax rates are at their lowest levels since the 1950s, so........
They are part of the country that doesn't pay income tax and wants the rich to be taxed more. They are the people that are defrauding the government by collecting government money and they are still able to work.
The bulk of people not paying income tax are the elderly, those with children, and the working poor. Ironically, many of the provisions of the tax code that caused that result, such as the child credit and the earned income tax credit, were Republican initiatives.
Both are nice Republican talking points that plays well with the base though.

I cant comment on your social security, disability or welfare systems as I dont live in the States. But I just wanted to make a comment on the original thread by George. I never thought she was racist and good for her for getting some brown sugar before she got married. I hear it is good. She was just sowing her wild oats. No shame in that. She is a very attractive lady and I am sureshe had tons of offers.
Re: At least Palin is no longer a racist......
the uSA is sinking like a boat with a hole in the bottom of it, and the whole country is worried and talking about someones sex life. instead of the news people hounding congress, about what they are doing about the economy and making jobs. they are reporting about someones sex life. I wouldn't vote for her anyway, and her sex life don't have anything to do with what kind of job she does. who cares what she did thirty years ago, I sure don't.
Re: At least Palin is no longer a racist......
OK, Tom & Chub, please educate me. Just who is drawing Social Security that didn't pay into it? Your benefits are tied to how much you paid in, so I don't see how this is possible.
There are numerous cases of illegal immigrants using someone elses social security number and collecting benefits from it. Supplemental security income is not based on what you pay in. It is for the disabled that cannot work. If you google totalization agreements you'll find that some have paid into it but if the U.S. enters a totalization agreement with Mexico it could devestate Social security.

I don't know where you get your figures from but I can see from facts that one in 4 people in Kentucky collect some type of disability. I personally know a guy 42 years old that collects about $5000.00 a month in VA and social Security benefits and runs a husband and wife quarters cleaning business on Ft Knox. This guy and his (38 year old wife legally blind and also collecting SSI) are milking the system. Here's a question for ya. How can she get a drivers license when she is legally blind. I see her driving her new car every day.
Re: At least Palin is no longer a racist......
There are or were regulations on who was eligible to draw disability benefits from soc sec. My first wife only worked 5 yrs and became a full time mom, she had a stroke and declared unemplyable, BUT she didn't qualify because she didn't have enough quarters. She got two checks, and we were required to return them. Of course that was before the illegal immigrants were brought here. I was never a sarah fan, still aint. But I'd enjoy her running for the presidents job, more chuckles would be coming.

My wife also worked for a few years and when she passed at the age of 39 I applied for SS for my 12 year old daughter. I do was denied because she was one quarter short of being eligible. I've been paying in to it since I was 15 and I'm 52 now. I'm supposed to be able to collect it when I turn 66 for full benefits. I was told that if you collect it at 65 you lose 25%. 14 more years seems like a long time. I'm just thankful that I'm not relying on it because it may not be there.
