what the hell happened--sorry guys i typed all this on microsoft word and then cut and pasted--had no idea that mess would happen
[QUOTE=Bobby Headrick;466324]I found this interesting, $200.000, to fed his family, they must eat steak and escargo every night; Add John Fleming, a Republican congressman from Louisiana, to the growing, bipartisan list of relatively well-off politicians who may want to revisit the way they discuss their income in public.
During an MSNBC interview to discuss why Fleming opposes President Obama's tax increase on those earning more than $1 million per year, host Chris Jansing said that Fleming has an income of more than $6 million. Fleming quickly corrected her, saying he actually takes in a fraction of that gross amount--about $600,000.
"The amount that I have to reinvest in my business and feed my family is more like $600,000 of that $6.3 million," Fleming explained. "So by the time I feed my family I have, maybe, $400,000 left over to invest in new locations, upgrade my locations, buy more equipment."
Fleming owns a string of Subway sandwich shops and UPS store franchises that earned a gross income of about $6.3 million last year, according to a review of the congressman's finances in The Wall Street Journal.
Jansing went on to tell Fleming that his annual personal income of $200,000 from those ventures was "not exactly a sympathetic position" from which to make the case for lower taxes on the wealthy.
"You do understand, congressman, that the average person out there who's making maybe 40, 50, $60,000 out there, when they hear you only have $400,000 left over, it's not exactly a sympathetic position," she said. "You understand that?"
"Class warfare's never created a job," Fleming responded. "And that's people that will not get jobs. This is all about creating jobs, Chris, this is not about attacking people who make certain incomes. You know in this country, most people feel that being successful in their business is a virtue, not a vice, and once we begin to identify it as a vice, this country is going down."
Fleming was merely pointing out a consequence of tax increases--that business owners will have less money to re-invest and hire new workers if they decline to take a pay cut. But his message likely won't resonate, as Jansing said, with "average Americans."
Lawmakers in both parties have long found themselves appearing removed from reality. From pictures of former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry windsurfing off Nantucket in 2004 to current Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich's six-figure tab at Tiffany's in 2011, national politicians can find themselves treading a fine line when it comes to discussing their wealth, especially during tough economic times.

Bobby what is it to you how much it costs to feed his family? Why do you feel entitled to money he earned?
Your kind of thinking is exactly why this country is in the toilet right now. How much does it cost the taxpayers to feed maobamas family and freeloading in-laws a year?
This is simply a defunct politician trying to drum up his base. Worst president ever, and it's showing in the polls
I did not say one thing that I was entitled to anything. I just posted an article, that is all and you all read into it what you wanted to. I did not post any belives or say i was jealous of him, just posting something that I saw, that is all, and yes it was interresting that he only had 600,000 thousband to reinvest, and try to create more jobs. AND I AM NOT UNEDUCATED. And I do risk my own money, every day. Dont know why you all even care as the ultra rich dont give a rats arse about you as much as you do them. I am not entitled to a **** thing, I HAVE TO EARN IT. So those who think entitlements are not needed, then give up your social security and your medicare when you get it, they are part of the "entitlement" programs that you all so hate. The wealthiest should pay more in taxes, they get a lot of tax breaks, more than we working people get, I do not have children, so I do not get that credit, I pay more in taxes than a lot, as I am single and have no children, no ded, except my business, so there dis me all you want, TimE, Geo you all cant have a civil discussion as you have to disrespect all others opinions, and totally disrespect that person. That is what is wrong with this country today. Cant fix a thing as everyone is always aruging and not getting nothing done. If the time spent yelling, fussing and name calling and disrespecting others was put into trying to solve the problems, then I guess this disscussion would never had happened.
I didn't mean to point directly at you Bobby......More of the thought....and I don't believe I ever disrespected your opinion. You're welcome to it.
Didn't fuss or call you any names either.
What I don't get is what the hell does it matter if he makes 1 5 10 or 10 million dollars.
It doesn't......He pays taxes...........he creates jobs, he RISKS his money, and in INVESTS in other businesses. Yet the left seem to think that since he's successful it is all right to take more from him and give it to folks who feel ENTITLED to receive it. I don't get it.
And to your point about Social Security and medicare.........I did a simple calculation a few months ago about how much I've paid in, how much it is worth, and how much I should collect at retirement.
HAD I invested every penny of that money instead of giving it to the government, based on WHAT my 401k and RETIREMENT plans have done over 25 years, I'd be able to retire significantly better than what the gubment "plans" on giving me. My estimates are that I could live on interest payments alone at 8% from 70 yrs to well past when I die, and 1 million in emergency funds for healthcare, AND 1.8 million in principal...above and beyond the 1 million emergency fund......This BTW........would easily give me 80% of my current income.....which is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the 30% of income that Social Security will provide.......
Will I pass up on Social Security..........HELL NO......I've paid a crapload of money into it.....A CRAPLOAD.
Perry called Social Security a PONZI scheme.........it is.........
Since you tried to spin it as an attack instead of legit questions, i will simply yield.
I wonder if you don't eat better than a family of say four or five in this administrations economy. See Bobby, class warfare don't end with the rich, you may well fall victim.
Point taken Geo. I work in social services and I see the entiment people every day, they treat me like crap, they yell, at me cuss me, call us names, and they come to me asking for this. If i did not need the job I would quit as I see first hand of the waste, the bs, the idotcy of it all. I give 200 mth in food benifits for a new born, that is gettingits meals from breasts or bottles, it gets 200 as its parents are ILLEGALS, they dont get any. We gave food stamps to al Quada operatives in Bowling Green, yes the two terror suspects they busted a few mths ago received gov assistance, they all do. Welcome to America, we give all vistors free food, medical ect, while our citizens pay for it all. And I do pay taxes, go to the gro and see clients pile carts high, while i try to not overspend. Yes some come into my office everyday that demand and feel that we owe them for being irresposible. Mond you there are those that do need it, the elderly, the mentaly and phsyically challanged, people who have had catostropic losses, but only temp until they get on their feet, some of my clients have received benifits for years, hell they are ready to retire from the system, lol. It just seems the more I work the more they take and the less I get, I dont have the tax breaks that are given to the most wealthy, neither do you, if theycared about the future of this country and their business, then they should "invest" more thru taxes, but these extra taxes, should be only alloted for betterment of, business, inferstructure, etc. something like that, a lot of things can be done, but nothing will ever be done, the mega rich will rule, as always, they will contionue to ship money to off shore accts, the greedy will still run Wallstreet, greed is the rot of our problems. Jesus was against greed, he was not against a person making an honest buck, just the greedy he ran out of the temple. So much for a christian nation, as we so call ourselves, and hide behind, to behave. One more point, I have had pays cuts for the past several years, the food stamp receipiants havent had any cuts, also the politicians who make 10 times my salary, for less work, no cuts, so I guess politicans are also on welfare.
what the right doesent seem to comprehend is that tax cuts for the rich hurt the middle class--this would be evident if my previous post was legible lol!
without a strong middle class to buy sandwiches in Mr. Flemings subways he would be out of business--If middle class folks which comprise the overwhelming majority of this country cant afford to buy products in small businesses than who will
if mr. flemings has to pay 39% tax on his 600000 income that means he will pay an extra roughly 30000 grand
what would happen if you gave tax breaks to the middle class which comprises the huge majority of his subway customers--history will show more money in middle class pockets means more consumption in small business like subway
if mr. flemings business increases by 10% following middle class tax cuts he would add an extra 600,000 in his pocket--sounds alot better than 30000 he would have gotten from a tax cut
Rich get richer when there is a strong middle class--the clinton years proved this fact
The Rich get poorer when they get huge tax cuts--the bush years proved this fact
This current plan RAISES taxes on the middle class and will send this country into a DEPRESSION.

i dont know any middle class folks who earn over a million a year
your right if your referring to the republican plan to raise the payroll tax back to 6.2%
[QUOTE=vetbass;466360]i dont know any middle class folks who earn over a million a year

Lets be CLEAR about this...............CLEAR since you guys obviously don't see my issues.
* Raising the Payroll tax back to 6.2 percent is a VALID process...........why because the originally reduction by 2% last year was not PAID FOR.
* Eliminating the Bush Tax Cuts....for everyone would be a valid process.........EVERYONE though.....not just those at the top..........because they were NOT PAID FOR.........
* Bush's "giving back to America".....which I loved for the extra cash was a good idea, but WAS NOT PAID FOR......
The bullcrap processes that Congress utilize to play with the numbers need to end.
The ONLY thing legitimate about TARP is that a vast majority of it has been paid back.
One other thing........Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were also not paid for, but I think those get a pass due to it being a National Security thing......

Good morning Mr. Fisher... You and some of the other fellas' here seem to have the opinion that social security has been a waste of your investment over the years, with that thinking then why isn't the insurance premiums you have paid over the years also been a waste of your money... unless you have lost a home over the years then you could have invested those funds a lot smarter...Anything other than what the law requires on your vehicles could have been invested wiser, unless you have had a loss your money has been wasted, health insurance the same and with those there isn't any of those monies coming back to you if you are fortunate enough to have not needed them over the years... Social security might have been a welcome lifeline had you needed it at a younger age... Social security makes our country a better place to live given that everybody isn't as fortunate as you and some of the others here who are dogging the system... Social security isn't going to go belly up, we can't afford to let that happen and keep this country a great place to live and raise our families as it is now... It spite of folks like you, they will find ways to fix the social security system as they have in the past... The limit has been raised several times in the past and if that is what has to be done it will be raised again and then you will have another reason to need a crying towel.

In spite of folks like me??
WTF..........I don't expect to EVER collect a cent from Social Security.....Current projections ****, and if something isn't done with it there will be serious consequences. Social Security and Medicare are good programs, but the funding and management of those programs has been a serious cluster F......
I never said they were bad.....I have stated on more than one occasion that I think they are mis managed and that I won't see a cent.........I thoroughly believe that, and have MANAGED my finances based on that. If they both exist in 20-25 years, and I collect the amounts they project for me.....GREAT. I will take it.
BUT......I don't believe they will.........that is all.
Later,
