100 % Agree with you. I was told the fine was $140 + $40.oo for each additional fish.
I have trown back a lot of 9" fish just because I don't want to chance it.
Re: rough river crappie is hot
2 people 45 fish in one day SOOOOOOOO! what law did they brake.? At first he didnt tell me there was 2 of them fishing and I have seen more under sized fish being kept then you can imagine. I can with out a dought tell you that they were all 9" or bigger.
A possession limit is 2 times the daily creel limit for all fish species with a daily creel limit and EXCLUDES PROCESSED FISH..
I won't get into a piszing contest with you about the law so let make it were you can under stand it OK!
Once he goes home cleans his fish puts them in his refrigerator this is a PROCESSED FISH and no longer counts as any kind of daily or creel limits..
Now if you are at a camp site and you clean your fish the same holds true but if you have whole fish in your cooler ( Unprocessed) at your camp site then you have to abide by the daily and possession limt set forth.....He did not brake any laws........
Here you can read it for your self http://fw.ky.gov/pdf/2011fishguidefishingregs.pdf
It is at the bottom of page 5 in blue...
I am not getting into a pissing contest with you but you are WRONG. Call 1-800-858-1549. They hopefully help you understand the law. If you like to follow your interpertation of what you read , I hope you have deep pockets........
Re: rough river crappie is hot
Well it is suposed to rain tomarrow and sunday so I may go dove hunting..
Re: rough river crappie is hot
Olgreenboat .... I'm afraid that your friends WERE in the wrong (IF they kept more than 30 fish each, during a single days fishing .... processed or not).
by definition -
A "day" is from midnight to midnight
A "Daily Limit" is the number of fish you can KEEP, per person, during that one "day".
A "Possession Limit" is the number of fish you can have in your possession, AFTER two or more days "afield" ... excluding processed fish.
The law on the daily limit is specifically for the purpose of STOPPING people from taking limits more than ONCE during a "day". You can CATCH all you want, during that "day" ... you just can't KEEP more than your daily limit. Once your friends caught their fish ... even though they were still 15 fish short of a limit for the two of them ... and even though they went home & "processed" the fish ... they are, by law, only legally allowed to catch & keep 15 more, between them, until the following day. The "processed fish" technicality is not part of the "Daily Limit" portion of the rule ... it's a clarification of the Possession Limit rule.
Otherwise ... if "processed fish" WAS part of the Daily Limit ruling --- there'd really be no need for limit laws, since you could catch a livewell full, go clean them, return to catch another livewell full, go clean them, etc etc ... all in the same day.
I think the "Processed fish" exclusion was more directed at cleaned fish you have at home in your freezer, not counting as a "Possession Limit" factor ... and cleaned fish you have in camp, after more than two days of fishing. I really wish the KDFWR would clarify that in a little more detail, in the Fishing & Boating Guide, so that instances like this would be less likely to happen & there wouldn't be any confusion over the laws.
Not that it would stop those that would break the laws, anyway ... but it would seperate the sportsmen from the poachers, and make it easier for the KDFWR to catch & prosecute the lawbreakers. Ignorance of the law is no excuse ... so why not clearly & completely define the laws, in no uncertain terms, and educate the angling public to the extent that they have no excuses ??

OK. I guess the game warden didn't understand it either, He told me once they were cleaned and in the fridge they no longer count.
It leaves a lot to interpretation though and I guess they do it so it would be easier to fine people. I'm like you make it simple and it is simple to understand. I know one guy who thinks you can only have 60 crappie in his freezer and no more because it says possession limit is 60.
Like I said in an earlier post I have yet to catch 30 keeper crappie so I don't see me braking any laws any time soon..
Thanks to all for all the info ..
Re: rough river crappie is hot
Despite how many fish were caught, I envy the man who has time to go catch a limit in the morning AND has enough time to go back in the afternoon to attempt to do the same.
Out of all the things I own, I don't own enough time.

It helps to live close to the boat ramp ;)
Re: rough river crappie is hot
Ater talking to 10 people on the phone today I was told the same thing you guy's said... Wags and crappy pappy you guy's are right and I'm wrong so wags I will be man enough to say I'm sorry about my previous statement.
But a game warden did tell me and my friend that once they were cleaned and in the fridge they no longer count..
I called my friend and clued him in on what was going on as well..
Neither He nor I knowingly keep illegal fish.. It is just not with the fine..
Now I will go get my foot out of my azz
Re: rough river crappie is hot
I think the Warden you talked to may have intended to say that fish in your home freezer don't count as "possession limit" fish .... BUT, you still have to abide by the daily limit EACH DAY you fish. It's two seperate laws ... they are just connected.
Now that you guys are aware of how these laws are interpreted, I'm sure there won't be any more problems with keeping too many fish. Just pass this information along to your other angling buddies, so they don't get in trouble over a misinterpretation or hearsay.

Re: rough river crappie is hot
Not a problem for me I have yet to catch 30 9" + keepers in one day to keep.. but yah I have let some people know whats going on and they were happy to get the info.
Re: rough river crappie is hot
I am glad that this issue was settled. I am sure you are a law abiding angler who was misinformed about daily limits. I was only trying inform you of the law before a different gamewarden approaches you and writes you a costly ticket. Good luck with your future fishing.
