Alright guys, I'm seriously considering making the reservations this week for the Poplar Creek area. Believe it or not, I've contacted some of these hotels via computer and they're already booked solid the first couple weeks of May. It's looking like my trip's going to be from May 5th-May 9th or so.
From the looks of the map, I could potentially get out of Poplar Creek if I had to and scamper to a couple close by bays. Shouldn't have to do that though, that second week of May is the full moon and things should be hot.
Call Katie at Poplar Creek Lodge.......She's really close. Not on the water, but man, you will NEVER find a better person up that way.
She is less than 5 minutes from the water.
Later,
Geo
Thanks guys. Art, how many acres of water is Poplar Bay? Is it big enough to fish and not have to really leave it for another area?
Here's a recent video, maybe last week or the week before....shows the crew launching in Poplar Creek and then heading outside the breakwall to catch some catfish. You can see the size of the bay in the first few seconds of the video, and then again at the end. The main lake offers some excellent blue cat fishing....the video highlights two of my favorite spots for blues, the Ky State Pen just south of Kuttawa Harbor, and the Ashland Oil barge off-loading facility just a bit north of Buzzard Rock/Poplar Creek. The old river channel is easy to locate in these areas, and fishing along it's edge always produces good eating cats.

I personally like staying at the Relax Inn it located just off the X-way @ the Kuttawa Eddyville exit, free ice is a big plus nice rooms. We went last year Memorial Day weekend had some motor trouble but still managed to keep 100 big bluegill with a few shellcrackers mixed in counting the small ones we probably caught 300 fish or more it was a lot of fun we fished around the KY **** Village. My dad went 2 weeks earlier and kept around 300 they fished around Kenlake. I don't think it matters where you fish. We threw popeye's tipped with a waxworm they absolutly killed it. I have heard the better shellcrackers are on Barkley. I'm going back again this year just waiting to set the trip up. Good luck
