That was one of the most painful games I have ever watched. I was rooting for South Florida just because they are on the bubble and not a perineal tourney team.
That 3 from about 25 feet with a minute to go was rediculous!
To each is own on opinions, which is what makes this board go around. My opinion on Pitino is no different than others that have opinions on Coach Cal, they are our opinions. To elaborate, I have always believed the Hall of Fame was for Coaches and Players AFTER their careers are over and to be inducted into the Hall before you retire really takes huge over the top accomplishments. Pitino's only National Title was with a Team so stacked that anyone here could have coached it to the title. Fully understand about the schools he has taken to Final Fours and his accomplishments but he failed miserably in Boston missing the playoffs all 3 years and resigning in the middle of the 4th year. He spent 8 years at Kentucky. Take those out of the picture and you have a coach that took 2 teams to the Final Four with no National Titles, 10 NCAA appearances, 4 NIT appearances and 2 years where his team went no where and a NBA career that was a Bust at best.
If 8 years at Kentucky are the main accomplishments plus 2 other Final Four appearances are the criteria then we might as well put Billy Donovan in the Hall of Fame, 16 years at the same school with 2 Titles in Back to Back years at a Football School. What about Brad Stevens at Butler, BUTLER, where he made the Championship Game the last 2 years coming a half court shot off the rim of beating Duke for the title 2 years ago. Butler and their great tradition, A Mid Major Team, getting coached to the title game in back to back years is a bigger accomplishment than Pitino's 2 year run in 96 and 97. Put him in the Hall of Fame. All I am saying is, in my opinion, to be inducted into the Hall of Fame before you have finished your career takes a very special coach with accomplishments that are so over the top and I don't think Pitino has done that. Does he deserve to be in the Hall of Fame AFTER he retires, for taking 3 different teams to the Final Four, Yes, but not now.
Well said Netboy....Donovan will be a hall of famer though.
So what happens if Pitino gets voted into the HOF, then accusations followed by some banners taken down from any of his Final Four or Championship teams? What next, he gets kicked out of the Hall? Players don't go in until several years after they stop playing for a reason. Coaches are no different. Look at what happened at Syracuse, 1 came forward then a gaggle of them came forward not only against the Syracuse assistant but other coaches when the crime happened YEARS ago. If Boeheim gets implicated or Joe Paterno were alive and implicated for stuff then what?
Not sure what would happen in that situation Woody, but I don't get comparing Boheim to Paterno. I haven't seen anything that points to Boheim covering anything up, but to be honest I haven't searched either.
As for as Donovan, he is a shoe-in to the hall as well. He just isn't toward the end of his career like Pitino is, which is why he hasn't been mentioned yet. Stevens is a different story. Outside of those two remarkable seasons, it remains to be seen what he will do. He may have just caught lightning in a bottle and may never be heard from again. Anybody remember Mark Few? There were people ready to proclaim him the next John Wooden and he hasn't been past an elite 8, now nobody hardly remembers who the coach is at Gonzaga.

I was using Boheim and Paterno as Hall of Fame Coaches whose programs have recently had Assistant Coaches come under investigation. I understand it came out that Paterno knew and it has not came out that Boheim knows anything, but I am just saying what if both coaches end up knowing a lot more than they say? You would not have to consider stripping them of their HOF status if it was not there to begin with. I think 5 years out of the game for both players and coaches is sufficient to be considered for HOF.
Few never went to Back to Back title games and I agree that Billy D is a lock for the Hall of Fame. I don't understand why Billy has to be towards the end of his career to go into the Hall. Boheim was voted in 7 years ago and shows no sign of quitting, Coach K is in and shows no signs of quitting. Billy D has spent more years at Florida consecutively than Pitino ever has and has twice the National Titles than Pitino and Boheim. Who says Pitino does not coach for another 10 years? Pitino has said things before and backed out on them. What is the criteria to be considered before retirement versus after? Do it after and keep it consistent for all

I don't know the answer, but my guess would be to do something that changes the game. I think Pitino did that with the style of play he incorporated into the game when the three-point shot came about in 1987. Denny Crum went into the H-O-F while he was still coaching, but I think it was more because of his 80's years and then full court press and switching defenses is what got him there as quick as he did. I don't know if there is a set criteria, but the bottom line is that Pitino and Donovan are Hall of Fame coaches whether they go in now or ten years from now.
Don't know why feathers are so ruffled. How many games them cod's lost? 7? They headed to the nit or something? To quick to throw under the bus you cod fans. Can't win em all unless your Bobby Knight with the Hoosiers. Hell Cat's were like 21 and 7 this time last year. U Conn wasn't record breaking either. Hired Pitino so you could be like big brother. He'll be around till 2017 as Juric has his head up Pitino's a*s. Season ain't over yet is my point. Doesn't matter what you do regular season long as you can get to the dance. Then all teams are even. Pitino a hall of fame coach indeed, needs that to go with his hall of shame.

What are your idiotic ramblings about? Are you dense or something? You just posted a couple hundred words of things that make no sense. Please tell me you were under the influence, because you surely cannot be this disconnected from the real world where the rest of us live!
No wonder MHall wants to beat you like you stole something from him!

You know you were one of the main reasons I left this site awhile ago, probably will again, I hate all the bickering. I will give Woody credit for one thing he hates the Louisville as bad as I hate Obama but at least he gives a strong effort to carry on a ''INTELLIGENT'' conversation.
You on the other hand just spew useless dumbass moronic garbage. You sound like a complete effin stupid ass about 99.9% of the time.
I have never been on Pitino's jock, ask any of these guys I've never been a fan and I've been consistant to...Has he been a good coach in his career, sure he was even awesome at one time, but I did not want him at Louisville and still don't.
