Re: Strange things that happen on the lake
Throwing a weightless Texas-rigged worm on top of matted moss in a farm pond a few years ago. I'd throw it up on the bank and drag it on top of the moss. After a few twitches a HUGE bullfrog ninja-stalks up behind my worm. I see it, and twitch the worm a little farther out. Ninja Frog follows. He followed it at least ten feet until it got near the edge, then he pounced on it.
I set the hook (a little easier than usual) and reeled him in. Found out frogs don't fight as hard as bass, but it's really hard to get a frog to open its mouth when it doesn't want to.

Many moons ago a buddy and I camped out on 18 mile island in search of some big cats.To make along story short the cooler got light and we had set the clickers and laid down on our sleeping bags. I woke up with a funny feeling something was watching me....As I lay there I turned my head to the left and was face to face with a skunk....Now if you boy's have ever been close enough to a fresh discharge you know it will make you woof your cookies....Fortunatly for me I had just enough liquid refreshment in me to just smile, close my eye's and pray he walk away.......and he did.:0

Re: Strange things that happen on the lake
Several years back I was fishing on Barkley burning the banks early in the day with a buzzer. I had the trolling motor on a pretty good constant speed while I was casting and burning when I heard a slight wing noise in a tree just in front of me and before I realized what was going on a great blue heron had plopped into the water in front of me and had my buzzer in its beak. I didn't know what to do -- I sure didn't want to set the hook, and mean while the boat kept drifting closer to it until it spooked and took off with my buzzer still in its mouth. But it got its wings tangled in my line and it was quite comical as it kept trying to take off but I would pull it back down into the water. Finally, it gave up, tired, dripping wet, and the boat had fully drifted up to it and I kind of expected it to be canterous to deal with but it just stood there while I unwound the line. When it was free it took off and gave me one of their patented "bite me" squawks so other than a bruised pride and a missed breakfast he was just fine.
Another time on a really dark night chunking a spinner bait I snapped forward on a long cast and my rod smacked something hard on forward swing. Scared the crap out of me! Shined the light on the water to try and figure out what I hit and I had cut a bat in half. It is a wonder it didn't break my rod...

Re: Strange things that happen on the lake
Me and a buddy were fishing around J'town one evening right before dark throwing crankbaits, I let a cast rip and backlashed all to hell, after getting it picked out i started reeling it in and noticed something didn't feel just right, when I got it back to the boat I had hooked a bat mid-flight, wasn't real fun digging the hooks out of it either!
Re: Strange things that happen on the lake
I fishing at Guist a few years ago, just screwing around fishing for blues with a bobber. I got careless and threw my line into a tree and end up snapping the line. The bobber with bait dropped into the water and laid there for a bit.
I got my pole rigged back up when I noticed my original bobber was moving because a blue had grabbed it and got hooked. I threw my newly baited hook back out beside my bobber, and lo and behold, the blue grabbed it. I ended up catching the fish, as well as getting my bobber back.

I was fishing Harrods creek when I was a kid and had a bird snatch my buzzbait out of air
Re: Strange things that happen on the lake
I hooked into a two foot gator when fishing on Lake Okeechobee. I got him to the boat and saw he was hooked in the back. I was able to get him freed up with getting him any closer. No way I wanted to land him.
Re: Strange things that happen on the lake
A guy told me that while fishing on a pond in our neighborhood he was making a long cast as some geese took off. The line went over the goose and apparently got caught and he spooled the guy. Funny story. Makes me careful around geese.
Re: Strange things that happen on the lake
Mrs. Toad and I were puttering around on Lake Jericho on one of their rented jon-boats with our trolling motor, and everywhere we went on the lake, little baitfish would jump all around us. Turn off the motor and they'd stop.

Remind me to not go fishing with you. It sounds like your trips are a bit too eventful.
