Re: If you fish laurel lake Flatwoods area be warned!
Theifs were a problem at another ramp at another lake my club fishes. As President at the time I called the Corp. Then I wrote a letter to the local sherrifs department and to the county tourism commision. The ramp started to be patroled which stopped the garbage. If that county doesn't have such a commision I'm sure a letter to any county government agency would help, perhaps human resources. Many times the local authorities are unaware of the problem. Make them aware and hold them responsible.
I just saw a special on TV about that county. Basically it is one of the worst drug counties in the nation. Its known for oxycontin and meth labs. There were many top officials involved in the mess. The worst one involved was the sheriff. The best thing you can do is stay away from that lake all together if you dont want to get raped, murdered, robbed, ect... Or you could set up a couple of deer stands in view of your property at the ramp, post up, and do a little hunting :) I heard there are no bag limits on varmint hunting, and it can be done all year long.

Johndeere thats a great idea!
Re: If you fish laurel lake Flatwoods area be warned!
This is a shame to hear.
I use that ramp often and have never had trouble. Makes me feel pretty lucky so far.
Re: If you fish laurel lake Flatwoods area be warned!
It is a real shame you have to worry about this when all you want to do is enjoy some time fishing and being outdoors.
I think all main ramps should install cameras. I would chip in a couple of bucks towards them if given the option.
i have learned to put a cheap game cam in my truck when i leave it then you have a pic of who ever comes around great help i hope they catch the thugs but the law dont care as long as they get paid
I hear ya man but Cameras are good if the proper ones are installed and the recording is done properly. Of course all it does is record what happened. I have seen waaay to many people get cheap on the system and then when they need a good video of the incident it looks ridiculous, jerky, unusable for evidence and cloudy. The real deterrent is feet on the ground and prosecute the living snot out of these idiots! It's sad and getting worse out there.
Re: If you fish laurel lake Flatwoods area be warned!
i agree with all of you it is getting to be A sad time .When all we want to do is unload and enjoy a day away from work/stress and instead we get more than we bargain for when we come back to see our belongings vandalized .I am about positive all the people who use these docks would chip in money or even pay a yearly amount to have a Guard on duty.Figure if they could get say 10-20$ a month from people who use the ramp it could be used to pay a guard. And i know i would chip in as that is cheap price to pay for insurance on my Belongings
Re: If you fish laurel lake Flatwoods area be warned!
What about the ramp at Grove Marina? Would it be safe to park there overnight? I would think it would be more secure, but I don't know for sure and am considering that option.
Re: If you fish laurel lake Flatwoods area be warned!
Not sure about Grove. I was down there overnight last weekend and a friend of mine towed my boat down there and left his truck over night at Holly Bay. He has a pretty flashy diesel truck so I am sure if there were people lurking the parking lot at night then that would have been the one they would have chosen. This was on a saturday night too. to be honest I have never really seen any suspicious characters at Holly Bay in all the times I have been there.
