What's your all's thoughts on this combo?
It's a good set up. I have 8 pro qualifer reels on my boat. For the money they can hold their own against any reel on the market. Im not a big fan of BPS rods as I have broke several, but thats not to say they are junk. I use Pro Qualifer Tournament edition reels on 7' Veritas rods and I have had no problems at all. I also have several Quantum PT Energy reels mounted on Abu Garcia Villian rods and they are great also. They are about twice the price and to be honest they really aren't any better then the Pro Qualifiers/Veritas combos. As someone mentioned the Johnny Morris Combos are nice too. If it were me considering BPS it would be Johnny Morris, Pro Qualifier or Carbonlite. What is important is maintance and proper storage with this and quality combo will last many years.
I have three casting veritas rods and two spinning rods. The casting rods are paired with abu Garcia revo sx and the spinning rods are paired with pflueger president reels trying to get all my setups with these combos. I also have a kisstler mag rod paired with a bps pro qualifier and its pretty awesome to. I have owned shimono, quantum, bps, diawa, and I prefer the abu Garcia rods and reels over any others.
Bass Pro Rod with Shimano Citica with $100-$200 budget for new.
If you want to go used; I would watch for used rod's on sell and then buy a new reel.
Veritas Rod, Lews Speed Spool reel. These reels are awesome!!!! and you can usually get a deal at a tackle store (mom and pop) if you buy both there at the same time.... just ask you'll be surprised.
I think I've decided to go with the Veritas Rod with a Revo SX. They currently have a rebate going on that allows for a additional $25 off. I have always been a fan of Garcia equipment. I think I'll go with a 7 foot medium and the reel 6:4:1. Thanks for all the help!

My exact advice... smart man....
Anything I need to do to the rod/reel before taking it out for the first time? Just now got it in, I love it so far!
