Falls of the Ohio!

Didn't think u could refurb aluminum. Rufurbing s&s cost about what a new aluminum costs. I've hit o lots of stuff with s&s and never did more than ding it up. Besides prop shafts are splined not pinned.

Thank you for the clarification,but I would still prefere aluminum at the fossil beds. I've had to many friends spend a boat load of money on there lower units down there after contact with SS.And yes I've had aluminum props refurshed.Good luck with your SS. Chuck

I'm going to wait till I can get a Jon boat. I had my bass boat down there one time and was nervous while time. And I'm not real particular about where I put my boat

yeah i tried to get up top yesrerday (Sat) and I hit , luckily i was idiling and didnt shear a pin..We have been doing good at the lower , but yesterday there was like 9 boats in the hole and we only got 4 keepers ,lots of cigars and whites .WE werent using jigs ....spoons were working and another "secret" bait a buddy of mine makes .

So after not being able to get up top we tried the upper side of the lower wicketts and we didn't get a sniff ,nothing on the graph,so we went back to the hole and got one more jax,and a ton of whites.

We seen a guy get a big flathead on his jig ,probably 15lbs

I was there yesterday morning bank fishing and didn't get a bite. I saw the guys in the boats pulling in a few, and saw 1 or 2 caught from the bank. I noticed all the boats were aluminum-I guess nobody would risk taking a fiberglass boat up there with low water. Anyway,as I was crossing the interpretive center parking lot about 8:00 AM, I met a guy with a beautiful stringer of 10 fat sauger (the biggest looked to me almost 2 feet long).He said he was using white and chartreuse curly tails at the big eddy; That's what I was planning to throw so I thought finally I was going to have a good sauger day. Oh well, he also said he caught most of his before sunrise.
I would have thought they would keep biting because it was nice and overcast. I'm stubborn, so I won't give up-I'll be back next week because when it's on, IT'S ON!

New one...yepper. My old 1968 Johnson had a shear pin. By that was years back when I had a Johnson.

Ok. Fished Monday morning with Fishinfreak. Had four people in the boat and had the limit with a few pig sauger! Fished the first deep hole in the fossil bed using spoons. It was fun, but it's starting to slow down since the water is so low I think. Lots of boats for a Monday. On the way back to the ramp, there were about 13 boats fishing the deep hole below the bear traps. Didn't see anyone caugh any bigger sauger. Anyways good luck and be safe on the river.

I and a friend are new to the falls area. We are hoping to give it a try on Friday 12/7. We hope to take a 20 foot bassboat in from the Indiana side. But we are a bit nervous about it as we have never navigated the area. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We are both familiar with boating running water, but do not know the area well. Also, what is optimum levels for newbies to navigate the area?

If I were you I would just fish the deep hole in front of the bear traps. It's very good fishing there and not near as dangerous. If you try to make it to the fossil beds without knowing the channel it will end in disaster. Especially in a fiberglass boat. If you're determined to make it up there then your best bet would be to follow someone up there, but then you're just trusting them and they may not know the channel either.
