There are three main criteria by which we judge our healthcare: accessibility, quality of care, and affordability. I have yet to see a system that can deliver all three. In the US we've made the last two a priority (which is not to say it's always been affordable for everyone), at the expense of the first. Other places have made it universally accessible, but the quality of care has suffered.
Sure, Deven, we'd all love to see universal healthcare for everybody. We'd also like to see an end to world hunger. And for the terrorists to lay down their arms and renounce violence.
One of the BEST health care models I've ever seen was a Managed Care HMO. Sure, you had to see specific doctors, and SURE you had denials, but you know what...it MANAGED CARE and it MANAGED COSTS.
Americans don't want to be TOLD what to do, but I guarantee you folks would accept being told what to do to get the type of care provided with the HMO Model that was common 15 years ago. I certainly would.

Geo

I have seen the managed care HMO, it looked really nice on paper and that was about it. In ALL areas it failed to actually control any health care costs. I myself agreed that it was more about so called "economic incentives" than actually providing care for someone.

Free health care. I guess we can add it to the list along with Jumbo Shrimp, same difference and small crowd.

Medicaid is operating at a deficit.
Medicare is operating at a deficit.
Social Security is operating at a deficit.
Why would medical care for everybody be any different? Our government is horrible at managing anything they do other than our military and DC tries like Hell to screw that up too.

It seems to me that you don't do much reading and know NOTHING about healthcare. How can you "see" managed care HMO but not be a participant, and know so much about it? Nothing in life is free so, if you are one of those who thinks you should have free healthcare, move to some country that already has it and get first hand experience.
When you go into government run healthcare, you can bet that when you need care the most, they will turn and walk away from you. What are you going to do if one of your parents has a heart attack or stroke, or becomes ill with cancer and needs chemotherapy? The doctors have a meeting and say, "They are old and we shouldn't waste money on expensive treatments to make this person well. Let's do nothing and just let them die." What if you become terminally ill and they aren't willing to spend money to buy the expensive medication that will make you well?
We have been members of an HMO for over 20 years and used In-Network doctors and have gotten excellent care from the best doctors and specialists. We are also using an In-Network pharmacy (Medco). Just a few days ago I ordered refills for my medication; one medication cost me $2.00 for a 90-day supply, another cost me $10 for a 90-day supply, and the last cost me $2.00 for a 90-day supply. All I had to do was place my order online and 5 days later, go to the mailbox and pick up my order; they don't charge me shipping fees. That's better than going to the pharmacy and waiting in line to pick up my prescriptions and pay a ton of money for them. Our insurance is provided through the company that my husband works for.

If I am wrong, why is that you can go to google.com type in Managed health care and read nothing, but terrible reviews on how it did absolutely nothing to manage healthcare costs and put into question the quality of care people were receiving. Managed health care FAILED in every way shape and form to do exactly what it was intended for. Facts do not lie and I seem to be the only one aware of them....

I know that a majority of stuff you find on the internet is pretty much BS, like good and evil, you have both sides. There are very credible websites that post very reliable and factual information.

What about a 47% government hospital for those without insurance
