Re: Guist, Old Man, Right Hook, State Trooper..
Looking for a guide trip on Guist Dave, you up for it?????? I have first account of the Green Carp that are caught in your boat and if there was anyone that can catch them at Guist, it would be you. Maybe I have not given Guist a fair shot for the 5 times total that I fished the lake were 3 days in July during the heat of the day, 1 day in spring of 2004 again in Chocolate Milk water where I snagged one 3 1/2 pounder on an Orange Spinnerbait with orange blades and yesterday. Not really ideal fishing conditions on any of the 5 days on this water. One of the guys that worked for me in Shelbyville said his Brother In Law works for the fisheries department and they shocked up a new state record Green in Guist back in 2005. Since I did and could not see the fish that hit my crankbait yesterday, my guess is it had to be the new state record, or at least that is my story and I am sticking to it.
Elwood, I would love to fish my ol fishin hole with you but unfortunately I am married to the big lakes here now. Doesn't sound like you are getting on the water there at the right times for sure. I don't ever remember doing much out there on that lake with muddy water. Unless the fishing has changed there give it a try in April after the water warms into the 50's with a black/silver shadrap on the main lake....those fish there used to just love that lure, even during the night tournaments there in the summer time. If you go again this summer in the heat of the day, try stroking a jig like we do down here on the deep stumps (if they are still there) off the '60 wall....I went back up there the first summer I was down here after having learned that technique here and killed them out there. Can't wait until you get down here for the flower bite...looking forward to a really fun trip.

Elwood you seem to be one heck of a fisherman and looks like a fighter. I am glad to hear you are getting better. I think that I may have met you at a Pond Hopper Tourney at Stoner one time. I think you almost got ran over by a boat not for sure. Glad the old feller did not stick you. Some times you got to DROP EM LIKE THERE HOTTTTTTTTTT! Good Luck and good fishing to you.
Re: Guist, Old Man, Right Hook, State Trooper..
Why do I have the "Eye of the Tiger" music in my head after reading that story? I reckon it's more like "Eye of the Elwood" in this case. lol Some folks just can't stand prosperity...and it sounds like Gramps at the Flying J was one of them. The closest I ever came to a fight at the Flying J is when they were out of meatloaf on the steamtable. :D
Oh yeah, I've caught one of those big green carp out of Guist too:

Never fished Stoner so it was not me and if a boat ever does run over my big behind he will be replacing a lower unit, have to repair his hull and most likely he will be ejected from the boat after impact. I have never seen anyone my size fishing in any lake that I have been on and that is todays weight of 352, not to mention there was not too many 562 pounders on the water when I was at my biggest 4 years ago. I have said it again, they don't make rain gear or warm weather gear for a man of my size for there are not too many of us that do it. Fishing was made for you little fellas, not us Biguns.
