Re: Casino Gambling in KY--predictions?
[QUOTE=apb;320335]Personally, I'm against it. Sure, it would bring in more $$ for the state, but at what cost to the areas where they set up the casinos. Nothing against gambling in moderation, and have been to a few places myself. Its the crap that comes along with it that I am against.

What do you mean? at what cost to the areas they set up... First of all the only decent place to raise a family is in rural america and even thats not perfect but the bigger cities where these would be put are already suffering from the envirorment thats associated with bigger cities.
Just my two cents worth.
Re: Casino Gambling in KY--predictions?
Gambling is a no win propsistion. With the economy in the toilet there are going to be too many gambling establishments and in the end they will fail. IF NOT then they will **** the economy dry. Where does the gambling money go? Out of STATE. Yeah we get taxes, but it does not help to create more jobs, or industry the state. Casino's build their own hotels, restaurants, golf courses and in some cases fishing lakes. In some cases they corridon off good fishing waters.. IE Ohio River Casino's have threatened tournament fishermen. So think twice about " People are gonna gamle any way why not get some of it" ideas.
In the end it brings crime, and addictions. You will not like the result.. I promise you.

[QUOTE=bassin_bug;320582]While I don't gamble I do know what comes with casinoes and that is the organized crime element; to be more specific..."The Mafia, Syndicate, Hitmen, Skimmers, or whatever name you choose to call them." There also comes with it the prostitutes and pimps and sexually transmitted diseases.

I have visited Ceasars and Belterra. Did't see any organized crime or prostitutes. Just where are they located. It isn't like these places are like the Vegas strip or the Boardwalk in Atlantic City.
BTW, I don't gamble except on the Derby. I went to the Casinos to watch boxing. I personally would not be going to casinos and don't care one way or the other if they come here or not, but I think it should at least be put on the ballot for the people to decide.

The Syndicate (organized crime) doesn't walk around the boats, wearing black suits carrying big guns and signs that say, "Property of de Mafia; keepa U hands off," but they are there; in casinoes and on boats. If I introduced you to my former brother-in-law, he could explain to you how you get to meet them.
Maybe you missed the "escorts" because they aren't called prostitutes or w#ores inside the casino. Those are usually waiting in/around the expensive suites and reserved for high rollers. The $20 ones hang out in the cheaper areas, but they ARE there, some, brought in groups by a pimp. Neither are as obvious as the brightly flashing neon signs.
I wouldn't be surprised if there is a gambling refrendum because, like it or not, people have the right to choose... good or bad. Personally, I'm past the stage of wasting money for a quick thrill. I'm not going to "bust my behind" all week to make money and then watch as it flies away into thin air; that's what gambling is. jmo
